I can't really follow the logic of saying there is some sort of god given right to have a free commentary on the game-radio and TV have moved on since the days of the good old beeb and the licence fee-internet based radio and streaming video are all now available-the notion of free to air football on TV has been a dead duck for ages due to the Sky monopoly

surely the best solution would be an internet stream at minimal cost for those who don't want the full Barnsley World-internet radios are available at reasonable cost http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000M2YHNM/nextag1-21/ref=nosim

I have more of a problem with the company who run the 'World' sites

Surely the club would be better off doing their own site.

They then get 100% of the profit, and can change pricing as they please.

I've had the 'World' service for a few years now, paying monthly by DD but I usually cancel for the summer to save about £12 - not much I know but still a few pints - within a few days I've got some southern dude claiming to be from Barnsley Football Club calling me up pressuring me to resign up to the service....I'm not one for hanging up on people but I had to do it for the first time for this guy because he just would not listen to me. Wish these people would get proper jobs.

    maybe............

I'm not sure of the economics of it-however think of all the grief RK gets with the current site-I agree about it in principle-it would be better to have control by the club but not many other clubs do their own thing-maybe they are just lazy?

Not all the football league clubs have a world site, and most of the prem clubs do their own

We should definitely end the contract with PremiumTV at the next opportunity

I think it is more down to a deal agreed by the league

All the league clubs at the time that the deal was signed were tied into a contract with Premium TV were tied into a contract for several years - not sure how many
I really dont think the club had much option to opt out even if they had wanted to.

The only ones that arent part of the deal are the ones that were in the Prem or Conference etc at the time - these are the ones doing their own thing - so its the likes of Man U Liverpool etc at one end and Aldershot and Accrington at the other.

It must be coming to an end soon though because Leeds have their own website, so the deal must have been agreed when Leeds were in the PL. When was that? 5 years? How long is the contract we have signed up to?

My problem with all of this is that World doesn't work more often than it does and even if it is only 10p a day, I object to paying for something that I cannot rely on to work when I want it to. There seems to be something odd going on at BFC lately. First of all the fall out with Radio Sheffield and now this. If there is one thing I object to more than having to pay for an inferior service, it is being told what and how I'm going to do something. So as "the Dragons" say, "I'm out"! My allegience to Barnsley Football Club, is cancelled until such time as there is a management structure at the club that puts the Fans needs much higher on the list things to do than they seem to be at the moment.
