What is wrong with being the party of welfare ?

The opposite is the party that supports tax evasion @ £120 b year

    All about priorities

Welfare cheating and using it as a life style option is just as bad. We pay the welfare bill and I resent working long hours to support people who can work but choose not to.

My pet hate is the topping up of wages to people with kids if they choose to only work part time.

I find it sad that the working class (us) turn on their own , whilst the rich /companies get away with murder ! is through a lack of knowledge or education they do that ?

I think you'll find that most people are against benefit cheats AND tax evaders

Why does it have to be one or the other some? I am working class and I applaud welfare cuts and also want to see a more aggressive policy to tackle tax avoidance. I can't understand why some use the tax issues of companies as a counter argument to welfare cuts. Let's sort out welfare and tax avoidance.

That includes me , but if you want a fair society you would start at the top with the ones who have the money to evade rather than the disabled etc.

The argument of topping people up with benefits or those that can work is a valid one.
However the coalitions policies are not to just to hit these people in fact most of the benefits go to rich(not all of them fall into this category) landlords. And buisness men that won't pay a fair wage whilst taking as much out of their companies for themselves.
But yet time after time thread after thread targets welfare as though its a bad thing which it is not.
Its not about reforming it as the tories say but by almost abolishing it as they detest it. And by highlighting a small part of it using the bias media people fall for their lies and act like snarling dogs.
Then they say yes multi millionaires need to pay fair taxes and stop plundering obscene profits but someone's getting a few quid on benefits and that should be our main concern.
That s rubbish in my opinion the Tories used their last administration to rape the country of jobs and used the benefit system to help them.
This stage two of their plan to make a workforce of an almost desperate and slavish existence while they indulge in absolute luxury.
Until someone comes to the working people and say first we're gonna use profits fairly and make companies/buisnesses look after the workers and customers and pay fairer taxes. Then there would be no excuse for people to use the benefit system only in the circumstances it was first designed for.

Don't try to change what I have said. I have no issue with there being a welfare state and I have no issue with paying taxes to support it. What I do take issue with is people who contribute nothing and take everything they can, people who can work but don't through pure laziness or they claim to be unable to work due to some affliction that doesn't affect any other aspect of their life but means they can't do any work of any description. The welfare state tends to turn it's back on people who have worked all their life and then need some help due to circumstances beyond their control.

    Accurate post Mario.

The cheating, lazy sponges (the Jeremy Kyle lot) are the real problem and Government needs to find a way to shift the Welfare balance to those who actually need it.

None of our political parties are committed to full employment. They all want a system that requires a proportion of unemployed. That's what irks me. They attack those that don't work when they don't want them to work

There is everything wrong with it when it is costing the treasury billions. They need to close the loopholes and simplify the taxation system to stop big business's from doing it.

Unfortunaly, the people that you refer to exist and we have to keep them sweet/ pay them off to maintain civil order.

Imagine the crime if these people were given nothing
