Not really poor game poor refereeing and dreadful commentary and looks like it will be decided by a penalty that was a blatant dive perfect

For a opening game to me just seems flat.

Thought the first half was entertaining - end to end. 2nd half not so much. Decent enough opening game which are often very cagey affairs.

You can say that again about commentary. ITV should stick to BGT and that ilk of mind numbing spirit crushing show.

I didn't enjoy it at all, it was quite flat and was spoilt by cheating and crap officials from emerging nations. I hope it gets better very quickly or I won't be watching much more.

It was potentially a fast paced encounter, ruined by the ridiculous play acting and dreadful refereeing. The home crowd certainly influenced that penalty decision.

I didn't enjoy it at all.

Awful refereeing, i mean truly awful. Cheating, diving, play acting. "Superstars" that just aren't (not compared to those that came before them).

Then wrap that up with a woeful opening ceremony on a par with US, ugly unimaginative and unfinished stadia. ITV coverage that plumbs even their own depths of desperation and embarrassment and to a backdrop of FIFA scandal and delusion with riots across the country...

It could have got off to a better start in my view ;-)

1st game usually a bit of a bore, but Brasil did look very average.

Will be watching rest of ITV coverage with sound off & some Batucada playing instead to ramp up the atmosphere.

I'm DJing during the first England match, but looking forward to Spain vs Holland tonight.

I actually enjoyed it, 2 teams that had a go at it. Thought Croatia played some decent stuff at times and were unlucky not to get a point.

I'm off to the T20 at the Oval in 26 degrees of sunshine with beer a plenty. Not sure i'm even that bothered about picking up the highlights of todays games. Which kills me to be honest as i used to love the World Cup and seeing as much of it as i could.

It was ****. Ref was dodgy as.

One of the things about modern football is that you dont have all these unknown players who burst on to the scene. They're nearly all signed to big clubs and we are already aware of them. That's the globalisation of football for you.

Enjoy! As bad as cricket has become in the last few years, it's no where near the depths of football.

I do love cricket, and always take in at least one day of the test summer. T20's are a bit of a chuckle and not too serious. I did enjoy T20 finals day at Edgbaston though, really good day out

Ref was very poor. Not a penalty. What was wrong with the Croatia equaliser? Never got bottomed out.

Has someone got to the Croatia keeper with a bag of money? Very soft hands on three savable brazil goals...

Nobody can convince me that the people of brazil want this tournament. It feels wrong. Not surprisingly the ITV studio overlooks Sugar Loaf mountain, and not the slums or the dying impoverished children.

Ironically ITV are running Nike adverts with a story line about real footballers defeating corporate robots.

The world cup - like the rest of football - feels bloated and exploitative, and somewhere deep inside it, beneath the sponsors, the wages, the gloss - there is a game we used to love.
