All about match fitness fair enough but it is alarming how many goals we've conceded this pre-season. Too many in my book. Hope it doesn't translate into the season.
We have overhauled the defence to an extent and Lewin and Jean have not had a dedicated pre-season with us. We've played some decent opposition, I'm sure we'll tighten up once the serious competition begins. It's impossible for pre-season match to stir up that do or die motivation we had from January. We've been playing on 60%, if that.
Halifax Town's goalkeeper (Matt Glennon) is a hairdresser. He used to cut my hair when i lived in Emley (at a place called G27). Used to sup at Shelley cricket club too. Top bloke.
Their first goal was against the run of play, the other two came when we basically only had kids on the pitch...Jordan Clarke was the only recognisable one at that point. We got forward well in the first half when the likes of Jennings, O'Brien, Hassell and Cwyka were on but the main striker seemed to be Rhys Oates who struggled to make much of an impact if I'm being completely honest. Out of the young 'ens we had a sort of middle-eastern looking lad at the back who looked quite good, Jordan Clarke did OK, no-one else really stood out for me but it was obvious they were taking it easy and trying to avoid injury. Not saying Halifax were going hell for leather either but their players did a lot more running and committed quite a lot of fouls.
