Just a thought. How much is the land Barnsley Council / Patrick Cryne own around Oakwell worth and would it be worthwhile selling this for housing and building a new stadium on the old brewery site?

Nowt up with Oakwell, close the corners in and sort the west stand out and you have a very tidy ground

I'd rather have my ballacks pulled off by an angry goat then move from Oakwell.

As the OP mentions, the land is owned by Barnsley Council and Patrick Cryne, neither of which have any obligation to put the sale proceeds back into the club or to build a new stadium.

Non-starter for me! And wouldn't want to move away from Oakwell anyway, reyt stadium

Was the reversion right on the land removed when Cryne and the Council bought it?

I don't want us to move.

But if we ever did, it'd probably be off the M1 up Dodworth.

Too true, and I can't see the land being worth that much to a developer to cover the cost of paying off the current owners, buy the brewery site, and build a new stadium.

Before the East Stand was built, they considered moving. It was a non-starter, because there was a condition in the sale agreement, in which the family that previously owned the land, could buy it back from us for same price as it was bought for (£1200), if it ceased to be used for football. Not sure if this clause still exists, but i guess it does.

the thing with closing the corners in is it stops air circulation and doesn't allow the grass to dry so it rots. ( was talking to one of the guys that relayed the pitch a few years ago and that's what he says anyway

If that was true, how does he explain that Old Trafford, Emirates, Anfield, Goodison etc are all decent pitches? Think it's more to do with the standard of the groundsman missen.

They get relaid with new turf often. Costs a fortune but they have cash to burn.
