Can't see our revolutionary system catching on. Bossman mentioned it today, at times we had 7 across the midfield. Barmy. And why was Hourihane playing left back, right back, holding midfield etc? Like a spare man he was, or not sure of his role. I dunno. But if he was spare, why not have him (or a sub) next to Winnall, who ran his bag off as usual in awfully warm conditions, with no support. When I thought we were going to do that, bringing Wilkinson on, I expected him to replace a midfielder (Watkins was ineffective, Crowley spent and Hourihane spare) and partner Sam. But no. And that sub, along with Pearson's withdrawal shortly before that, killed us. Handed Bradford the initiative and impetus. So after playing some pleasing stuff and generally dominating for 75 minutes, we were in the end camped in our own half clinging on for the point. It's another point, a clean sheet (yet to concede at Oakwell) and stretches the unbeaten run. Nowt to worry about. But I think we had the players to win this afternoon. Don't expect to see many worse sides visit us this season, Bradford were appalling. But hopefully this forces the club to accept what we've said all summer, we need left back cover and a ******* striker (George Waring). Not midfielders, Lee, I think thaz got enough lad. Great to see so many familiar faces though, including our Patrick, which was nice. You Reds. PS - If Conor Wilkinson is the answer I don't want to know the question.
It's far too early for me to be judging these lads, but **** me this lad's got some work on to convince me he's not gash. I said this about Vaz Te after a month, hope I'm wrong like I was then.
Vaz Te had attributes even when his form wasn't great. I really don't know what Wilkinson has to offer. He's tall but can't head. He isn't strong. He doesn't put himself about. Doesn't close down. He's very one footed and slow to switch it on to his left. He possibly could be a good finisher but he doesn't work hard to get chances. He offers nothing. Dodged a bullet missing out in him permanent. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
Good post other than calling Bradford an appalling side. They were one dimensional at first lumping it to Hanson but looked a threat when Anderson/Marshall had the ball on the wings, were organised in defense and had the better chances. We'll play a lot worse teams than them this season.
Personally, I think it's far too early to be over critical of any of our young, new players. If they need a bit longer to settle down and produce performances which better reflect their strengths & abilities, then I for one am prepared to show the necessary patience with them. Over the years there's been plenty of players whose Barnsley careers started indifferently, but then gone on to produce the goods for us. Adam Davies & Sam Winnall last season are the latest examples of this. Still, some folk epitomise the saying "Haters have got to hate". Once a victim of their diatribes has moved on to pastures new, these people waste no time in finding their next victim.
Very harsh on Bradford. They were the most direct team we've played for a long time. Every time they got the ball it was straight out to the wings and whipped in or launched up to Hanson. Many people criticize their physical, longball and getting stuck in tactics but at the end of the day it makes them a very tough team to beat.
I think the lad looked worse than useless in his 15 minutes today, doesn't mean I'm going to victimize him, hate him etc. Just calling it how I saw it, and today I saw a useless lanky lad who offered us nowt and in my opinion helped the opposition cause with his feebleness.
I also thought he was ineffective, mate, but I'm not going to go OTT with any criticism of him. For example Bobby Hassell's performances were, at first, extremely poor & feeble. However, it didn't stop him improving and becoming our club's greatest ambassador in the modern era. I'm willing to show the same amount of patience to the likes of Wilkinson and Watkins as I did with Hassell. I know it's de rigueur to criticise players who don't hit the ground running these days, but as I always happily admit, I'm a footballing dinosaur and have never been a follower of fashion.
I think you'll accept that I too don't fit into certain groups or ideals, I'm an individual, love me or hate me. The lad was bad today, I hope he improves if given another chance. Didn't see you in Redfearn's, shame, hope you're well?
I agree with you Andy. I just didn't get the tactics at all today. The three points were there for the taking against a poor side.
Disagree, mate. Thought he did well with limited service/support. Much worse as a result of his departure and Wilko's arrival. But, other opinions are out there.
Agree about Wilkinson. I went to Oldham last season & thought him attitude was awful & wouldn't want him in our side. Not seen anything since to suggest he'll be a good signing. A 6 foot + striker that doesn't even attempt to win headers when he's the loan striker is shocking
