Both could do with a fresh start. Be more inclined to keep Palmer (unpopular opinion I'm sure) as he had some good games under Val but not that bothered if he does go. Vic is a real grafter but just doesn't score goals which is sort of the main role of a striker.
Palmer will probably do well for somebody, now we're back to 5 subs. Suspect Vic will be better than whatever forwards we end up with on our bench, but hope he's not as good as whoever we have starting games.
I think there’s an effective league one squad player in both of them, Vic never shirks and has ability which would suit this level; and from how Duff speaks you’d imagine he’d be able to get something out of Palmer just as Ismael could - as said above we will have five subs again this season - I wouldn’t be gutted if both stayed to be honest. That said I equally wouldn’t be too concerned if they did not. As for them not being in training, as they are out of contract they wouldn’t be insured, the club might have asked them to stay away, or as they aren’t employed they aren’t required to be in at the moment - I wouldn’t assume it means they’ve 100% gone elsewhere - more they’re weighing up options. Hopefully the club have given a deadline. Perhaps they already have and it has passed, I’m sure we’ll find out. If they do go, all the best to them. Palmer lost his way last season but I wish him no malice, and Big Vic could never be accused of not giving his all.
You have some low expectations of our recruitment team if you think we won't find someone better than Vic to sit on bench. We already have better in the building with Marsh for a start.
Victor is on the EFL retained list as being offered a new deal but released, so I assume it’s one we’ve known about for a few weeks.
We all love to see a homegrown player come through and succeed and I’d love Aiden Marsh to be the next to do so - but we’re talking about a 19 year old kid who’s made a total of 5 first team appearances. Three of which when we’d already been relegated, and all five being defeats. I think it’s a bit premature to judge him to be better than Adeboyejo - who whilst limited has had a fair few good games. I think you’ll be surprised at how many ‘better than Vic’ centre forwards we will be recruiting.
I don't know how many forwards will start games, or who will still be at the club etc... Low expectations come from low budgets.
I'd rather give the minutes to Marsh than Vic as he has way more potential. Vic has played over 100 professional games and the most he has ever scored in a season is 3. His goal record is what you would expect from a centre back not a centre forward. Yes he works hard and tries but he isn't good enough. If we struggle to find players better than him I am worried.
Good..getting rid of the dead wood.. might take another couple of windows to get shut of more but a definite move in the right direction
If he leaves then he might not necessarily even be replaced - it might be Cole, Marsh, Leya Iseka and one of Woodrow or Morris if one stays for the forward positions. Maybe Luke Thomas too? Is he back? Do we know, other than the Woodrow Luton rumour, if any of the others are expected to go? With the budget constraints it might well be we go with what we have even if one or two of those leave.
Saw Luke Thomas with his peroxide blonde barnet with Herbie Kane yesterday so would guess he’s back in training.
I would still expect Morris to go tbh.. too good for L1.. Chris Wilder a know admirer. Would love him to stay but think he'll be gone by September.
Styles is 100% going, he has told the club he wants to go so he will get sold at some point. Links to Forest etc. no bids yet it seems but he is going. Same with Helik, the Poland manager said that Bielik will not be picked in the national side while in league one, same will apply to Helik meaning he will leave too. No bids yet it seems but we are so early in the window. Iseka and Cole would both score more than Vic over a season too I am sure, if worst comes to worst and we have to stick to what we have, those are better options that Vic IMO. But I am certain we will bring more players in. We have to, we don't have a single left back/LWB at the club for a start now Vita is gone.
Last season minutes per goal (from BBC sport website); Adeboyejo - 358 Cole - 515 Leya Iseka - 444 All poor, but I wouldn't be confident that Cole would score more than Adeboyejo over a season. Iseka maybe, but I'm not entirely sure what Cole offers.
Both have history if scoring more than 3 in a season. Last season is an anomaly as we were so dreadful. At previous clubs in decent leagues Cole and Iseka have both scored over 3 goals in a single season which Vic has never managed. Even under Val when he played so many games in a team doing so well he scored twice. Don't think Cole and Iseka are particularly great either but they are just better options than Vic.
