Its down to two strikers we are chasing:

    ANDY RITCHIE EXCLUSIVE

    RITCHIE-ANDY

REDS boss Andy Ritchie gave his thoughts ahead of the trip to Swindon Town.

He said: "We have not had much success in bringing someone in just yet although there are still a couple of players we are waiting on. Something could happen before the end of the day although you can never tell.

"We have been putting calls in to everybody and we have been close to a couple of deals but the players have opted to join Championship clubs instead. Something may happen this afternoon but we will have to wait and see how lucky we are.

"You never can tell with these things and it is just a shame that you are dealing with agents as well and they always have the final say where a player goes. You have to contend with that and sometimes an agent will tell a player that it would be more beneficial to go to somewhere like Derby than come here to Barnsley.

"We are still chasing two and they are both attacking players who can play out wide or up front. They are both versatile and we need that with a small squad".

REDS boss Andy Ritchie gave his thoughts ahead of Saturday's clash with Rotherham United.

He said: "We are looking ok fitness-wise at the moment. Daniel Nardiello will be out for a while after a scan showed a significant bleed and tear in his hamstring. We will be out for at least a month if we are lucky.

"Daniel's injury is worse that Paul Reid's and he was out for a month but some people do heal quicker than others. We will have to see how he responds to treatment but you are looking at a month at least.

"Everybody else is fine for this weekend and Paul Reid, Matt Carbon and Steven Watt have all trained today and will be available.

"Richard Kell came back in the reserves this week but is still a way of playing for the first team. Before that game I think Richard was a little anxious and was worried about coming back too soon but he came through it well and it was only cramp which stopped him. He did not go overboard and he passed it, moved and put in a few tackles which has done wonders for his confidence.

"With the injury to Daniel we will have a look at Nathan Jarman up front. We have not seen Martin Devaney play up front either so that is another option. I always like to keep my strikers fresh so that means that Nathan will be getting a run out and it is up to him to show what he can do.

"I think he is ready to make that step up and has aggression, pace and is scoring more goals now. We will have a look at him in the next month.

"I know that Martin will go out there and destroy defenders" - Andy

"I was a little surprised that it took so long for us to see the real Martin Devaney but I think he showed us that at Bradford. I was not surprised at all with the quality of his display because that was why I brought him to the club and what I had seen at Cheltenham.

"Martin is a confidence player and his confidence took a bashing at Watford. Overt the last two or three weeks I have seen him move up to another level and I think that showed on the pitch at Bradford.

"Martin has taken a lot of confidence from that performance and I am sure we will see more of that. With confidence I know that Martin will go out there and destroy defenders.

"Rotherham United are a threat as a team even though they are on a bad run but it is up to us to go out there and do a job on them. We are not world beaters and are not even a good team unless we work extremely hard so we have to do that first. If we work hard then we have the quality to pass the ball better than most".
