Just because it's you, I'll update you as I'm watching it.

So far, he's mentioned that he won't rush in and sign players willy nilly just for the sake of it. The better players will take their time before making a decision. That doesn't frustrate him, he's been in this game too long. He then said that since he first came back, he's changed his thoughts on the type of player he wants/needs. In January, it was "left back, right back and centre half". But the dynamic has altered, and with departures, he's looking at other positions. But he made a point of saying that the young lads will form some of these positions in the team and named Paul Digby in particular.

Once you've listened count how many things you know now, that you didn't before you pressed play.

 

Says he wants to recruit exciting players, players who'll get fans on the edge of their seats. Says that whilst League One is an uncompromising division, there's goals to be scored in it.

 

The best quality goalscorers we can attract, and wide players/midfielders to create for them are his priorities.

 

The likes of Smith, Nana, Abbott, Maris etc will need a run of games. That's what pre season is for. Needs to see how they react to that, and more importantly how they react now to being first team players, in and around the dressing room. Organised a tough pre season for that reason, to see how some of these lads react.

Some of em won't make it, but we might unearth a real diamond.

Makes a point of saying that these days you hear managers saying "he looks like he could be ready now" and these lads are 21, 22 years old. Whereas in his day, you were in the first team at 17. "And it was rough and tumble, you had to be a man."

 

"At 17, 18, 19 year old, they should be pushing for the first team. If they're not, they shouldn't be at the club."


If these lads have a quality first teamer ahead of them, they'll possibly go out on loan.

 

"We have to test these lads, test this academy."

 

The transfer market seems to be picking up slowly,I don't think it will be too long before we're active.

"The days of players getting exactly what they want are long gone. We're now in an area of 'this is what we're offering you, if you don't want it, thank you very much, we move on. If you think you can get better somewhere else, fine."

A "lot" of players out of contract that we're interested in, a lot of "quality" we're interested in, and a lot of quality players that are interested in us. But we've got to get the right blend.

The video then jumps/freezes a second, so I'm guessing he said summat naughty or gave summat away.

 

I'm very patient.

 

"If we get to the end of the window and I get our first target, I'll take it. Because it's not about now. We want the right team, ready for the first game of the season, and I'm happy to be patient."


Clearly, Danny got burned in January.

 

Matt asks him if it's just as likely we could see our first signing next week.

"Yes. It could happen tomorrow. By the time we finish this interview I could have one outside the door. I just don't know."

 

"It's been hectic. Me, and Ben in particular have been very busy, up and down the country meeting players and agents, until they're coming out of our ears."

 

"We have to find the right blend. We can't just sign 10 players just because. They might not be the right component. We want the right ones, we want a dynamic and enthusiastic - youthful to a certain degree - team, that everybody can be proud of, who will stick together for years to come. And not this time next year have to let 14 players go again. In an ideal world this time next year we'll add just a couple of players to an already tight group who have been successful this season, whatever that success is for us."
