That is american "justice" http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...ock-turner-sexual-assault-statement?CMP=fb_us
and not even a sniff of apology from his ******** of a dad. misogyny is clearly alive and well in that gene pool
Entirely unrelated to the specific issue, but why on earth has it become common reporting practice, even in the traditional 'quality' newspapers, to report the reaction of random nobbers on social media as if it is a valid part of the story being reported? The world has gone mental.
You're absolutely correct. The Guardian online now takes stories from its Australian and US sister papers (hence MLS and ALS get loads of coverage compared to other UK online papers). The article in the link is one of the US led stories. There's a distinct journalistic style difference between the UK produced stories and the US ones. Your point is still bang on the mark. Reactions from arbitrary Twitter users does little to improve the quality of the article.
I recommend reading the poor girls letter that she wrote after the sentencing. Or rather I recommend not reading it as (as some on here may have noticed) I don't get emotional easily but it is one of the most heart wrenching things I have ever read. Obviously we all know that raoe and sexual assault are serious and that they traumatise the victims and deeply affect them but in all honesty you only ever see or imagine the clichéd story of a girl scrubbing herself in the shower afterwards and becoming withdrawn and angry. It isn't until you read a victims own story of how she felt in the hospital, how the entire ordeal dragged out with 'd Nikon pointed right into my spread legs' and hearing how she couldn't go to bed till after the sun came up when she felt safer how she learned all the best places to cry at work and how she lived in fear of people in her home town finding out that you really realise just how horrific it is.
Agree with the above just two additional points What sort of justice is 3 months in Jail for that crime how the ******** of a father can even begin to defend the fact his precious boy has had his life ruined is beyond belief. Whats 20 minutes got to do with anything. People have committed murder in a few seconds never heard anyone say "well it was a couple of seconds of madness when he fired the gun - its not fair that his life is now ruined and he will be forever a murderer" I dont know who I dispise most the rapist son or the daddy who thinks he didn't do anything wrong Over the years I have read several accounts by Rape victims - all have similar sentiments to the ones in the girls account. Its common for victims to actually think death would have been preferable - 3 months in Jail is laughable for that crime
I agree with you completely... These tweets do sum it up pretty well though! https://mic.com/articles/145456/one...tm_medium=main&utm_campaign=social#.d8qCrOBGX
It gets worse!! The rapist is planning an appeal so the victim will have to go through it all again!!
Unfortunately, being a member of the 'Ivy league' stateside and 'The Establishment' here plus social standing, celebrity, status, money corrupt...err 'influence' the legal process on both sides of the atlantic. Remember the Guinness fraud case and Ernest Sanders? ...let off because he had terminal Alzheimers but went on to hold senior executive posts at major companies. The only man in living history to ...err.. ahem..' make a full recovery' from advanced stages of Alzheimers.
Here is part of a character reference given to the court by his friend. Shee blames political correctness (,yeah I don't know how either) for the sentence and says "rape on campuses isn’t always because people are rapists." Ah of course, just because you raoe somebody doesn't mean you're a rapist. Just like stealing something doesn't make you a thief, or sticking up for your scum mate doesn't make you a lovely person
I've heard a lot about the rapist these last few days but these are the two men who deserve attention, the ones who approached him, chased him and then held him down until police arrived. Thank you to these two men for not walking past and for helping out the victim when they could tell something was wrong. https://www.buzzfeed.com/emaoconnor...brock-turner?utm_term=.cw38q4pq5J#.tjb1jd5jV8
Thanks for posting that I hadn't seen it and it does go to show that there are decent men around glad they were there and did the right thing
