Just been down to get a scarf to hang out the window for the drive to Cardiff. Lad in the shop said that by the end of trading on Tuesday, they'd sold about 21,500. I reckon we'll have about 23,000. Which isn't that bad when you consider that the pop of Barnsley is about 70,000. It would have probablynhave made more sense to have played the game at a Manchester or Birmingham stadium. That would also keep the revenue within the English FA, rather than helping out the Taffs
Varley are you really that sad? I take it you've never visited the millenium stadium for a match then? If you think its not as good option as old trafford or Birmingham then you must be one of the saddest followers of football known to man. Its right smack bang in the middle of a nice city centre only a matter of yards from the train station and shopping centre, quite simply there aren't many places like it in europe let alone the UK. As for giving the money to the "taffs" I'm pretty sure the english FA went cap in hand to the Welsh asking to use it because after dozens of major english games held there if it wasn't the Bees knees they would look else where wouldn't they. Some people, I dunno!(
RE: Population it is right, but a lot of the areas that includes probably not heavy with tarn fans, especially as you get sheffield way.
Population of Barnsley Town is 70,000 -ish Population of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough is 220,000-ish.
Varley never said town just said Barnsley, i see Barnsley as the entire borough not just around the town centre.
Tarn is about 70,000.........The TARN district is about 225,000 Which is about the same as Swansea Tarn district is all the area that is covered by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council It dosent include Wath or Hemsworth and places like that which also have a considerable number of TARN fans.
RE: If we are only taking 23,000........then I think its a poor turn out !!! So 23,000 equals poor turn out and a mere couple of thou more doesnt? Not sure where the logic is in that mate.
When was the last time we had 23,000 reds fans at oakwell along time ago, great backing hopefully we'll win a few more supporters setdy.
I think it's miraculous When you consider we couldn't even sell 12,000 to our own fans for the home leg of the semi-final against a local rival. 22,000 is about 2 1/2 times our home average which is roughly the same as what Swansea will be taking. For a 10 hour round trip, pissing it down with rain, 90 minutes of football, it's an unbelievable exodus from Barnsley, especially as it's on telly anyway. Most of the wives, girlfriends etc who went to Wembley for a day out in London won't make it this time. Stop getting obsessed by the size of the following - fat lot of good it did Leeds last week.
