That first half was awful. I counted three different formations, with JCR and Hammill first switching wings and then us going 4-5-1 with Hume wide right. He has shown time and again though that he hasn't the engine or the positional awareness for that role. He should have been tracking back for the second goal and many times after that he was caught the wrong side and wasn't pulling his weight defensively. We lost the game in the centre at the back today though. We were weak in central midfield, Colace being too easily bypassed and too easily dragged out of position, and the centre backs didn't have a good game. The first and third goals came straight through us. Ref made a few strange decisions, but can't really fault him for the linesman spotting the handball, but not looking where the defender was stood. Also, Shotton didn't really give him much choice. It was the poor defending that led up to the penalty that needed questioning. Also, shame the defenders weren't as quick to react as their striker though when Steele made the save. Gray played well though and was very strong under some rough tactics from their defence, and Anderson showed a touch of class when he came on. In all, a very poor performance from too many key players, coupled with baffling tinkering with the formation. We threw the points away today.
