And we wonder why we dint score. Turgid, sloppy and probably an eye on wembley and not getting injured. Didnt help with losing all the players to int.duty but we had the players to put out a 442 or 433. Poor and pretty boring to watch. If we are serious about playoffs then we cant turn out teams like that.
Scunny did make it difficult for us but it was very, very turgid. Not everyone out there looked bothered.
Very disappointing performance. I hope Wembley isn't a factor because a far more important Wembley trip is at stake.
I agree it wasn't, but with two strikers and two wingers not available it was always going to be difficult to score against a team who don't lose very often
Some of the comments in this thread are a bit unfair IMHO - Winnall, Fletcher, Watkins - that's about 30 goals plus assists taken straight out of the side plus missing the work rate of Isgrove. No lack of effort or application for me, just a lack of first team creative regulars against a well organised side who came for a point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have to say it was obvious mid way through the first half we were entirely redundant up front. Goal kick after goal kick lumped up to Toney who wrestled completely ineffectually with their centre halves every time (I know he didn't get much protection). Midfield getting in each others' way. It was pretty awful. We were BADLY affected by missing players today but I would have thought half time was the point to change it to 4-4-2. As soon as we did we woke up and could have won it. As for George Williams...well played lad!
After 10 mins, I'd have bitten yer hand off for a 0-0. Combination of half the usual outfield missing, a lad on loan who could do with a few more shredded wheat and a few others that went missing and it was clear as day that we'd struggle to create much against a workmanlike away side. Word must be out about how Southend dealt with us the other week - Scunny were quicker to everything, left us no space in midfield, so it's the lump it long game again, which doesn't work. I wanted Toney to have a good game, but sorry Hecky, he looks completely out of his depth. Huffed & puffed and chased a few lost causes, but not nasty enough for big mesters football yet. Muscled off the ball with the slightest of touches, ended up waving a foot in the general direction of the ball most of the game. Chapman hasn't displayed the flashes he did when he first arrived, but given the midfield's ineffectiveness today, he never really saw the ball. Badly missed Watkins' graft and endeavour today. March really has been the cruellest month for us - call-ups, injuries.... Gutted that SSW might miss out on Wembley. Play like we did today and it'll be a gloomy trip back north.
Aye a guy on Radio Sheffield brought that up and it did make me think. The guys brought in today are going to be straight back out (apart from White) because they messed up their big chance to make them undroppable for Wembley. With how little fight we showed and how timid we went into challenges you have to believe some at least had one eye on not getting injured/suspended for Wembley.
I suppose it's human nature to avoid any risk of missing out but they also need to remember that there is a much bigger prize well within their reach.
Well we played toney up front on his todd and he spent most of his time chasing back into MF for the ball. 2 big points dropped today. Hourihane was unlucky not to score 2 though to be fair.
