Shorts on and lounging in the garden last Wednesday in beautiful sunshine. Snowing right now up Dodworth!
I'm down at Oakwell wi' me no shovel if anyone wants to give me a hand. We don't want a repeat of the Birmingham scenario.
I was walking in the Lake District (Crinkle Craggs) last monday wearing t-shirt and shorts. Driving to Liverpool from the Midlands today though a blizzard near Stoke, 2 inches of snow on the car first thing.
Which bit was autumn? And where are the leaves falling? Had a mare getting to work this morning stuck behind everyone that cant drive in snow.
Global Warming, load of belux In the 70's it took me 2hrs to get from Stocksbridge to Worsboro at midday Easter Saturday because of a big downfall of snow. Over the years, 1000's in fact, we have had variations of climate some times greater than others, it's just that at this moment in time scientists have found a cash cow that they can perpetuate for their own ends and consecutive governments have used the same myth to tax our arrisses off.
Re: Global Warming, load of belux Many 400 year weather records have been broken in last 2 years just had warmest March day ever in Scotland 2nd warmest October last year for 200 years. No significant rainfall in many parts of country for over 2 years with more rain recently in July and August than in Spring and Autumn. UK is a temperate climate usually ground is normally saturated at this time of year drought restrictions in April. Ice caps essential for global climate balance are shrinking with ozone layer thinner over Antartica. See what happens next.
Its cyclical, with those cycles lasting a lot longer than 400 years. We are arrogant to think we can do anything about mother nature.
I am environmental scientist – although not a climate change scientist. I have no axes to grind or benefit from climate change. For me (and the vast majority of environmental scientists) the evidence of dramatic climate change is irrefutable. That evidence comes from a lot more than just weather records. Species distributions are changing faster than ever before. Sure the climate represents a messy data set and there are other processes at work, but through all of this noise the signal that climate change is clear. What is driving this, is open to more debate. For me the correlation with atmospheric carbon dioxide and global temperatures is compelling. At all other periods of the earth’s history, elevated CO2 has been associated with higher temperatures. Why should it be any different now? Previous changes in CO2 have been driven by evolutionary changes in the efficiency of photosynthesis, this one appears to be related to out use of fossil fuels. Its kind of comforting to deny human responsibility for climate change, because then you don't have to feel guilty for not doing anything about it. And lets be honest, lots of the changes required are no fun, so life is a lot easy with your head in the sand.
