mostly due to fundamental errors - but come on. Back four - thrown together - three of the four playing their first game there for the club. Give it a game or two and that back four settled, things will improve greatly - they are all good players. Preece showed today why he hasn't had much of a career as a number 1, he's very able, but will always be the deputy for me. Steele will be back soon enough, Preece is fine for now, up to today he's been faultless for me. We all know how much work needed doing at the club. The faces are in, give them time to settle, and the team will grow. It doesn't matter if we're still in the bottom three in a month, we'll be above it by December, mid-table after Christmas, and perfectly safe before squeaky bum time in April. And I dont think that this is being overly optimistic or thinking wishfully. The signs are there, the odd piss poor performance will happen, I wouldn't have chosen Robins, but there is an air to the place all of a sudden, an air of actual managerial capability, rather than a certificate which says you can do it, he says the right things but actually acts on them. I thought Robins would be a bad appointment, he's done nothing much yet but i'm still admitting I was probably wrong. I for one reckon the future of the club is pretty secure.
Havent seen todays game but the 3 games i have seen Preece play he has been good. As for Steele i dont think he has been outstanding this season.
Outstanding, no, but steady away. Pretty rooted to his line most of the time, but still superior to Preece for me. But Preece has done well, for sure. I wouldn't complain if Steele didn't walk straight back in, a place is to be earned.
steele is like shay given, consistent and doesnt drop howlers or at least hasnt yet, muller, colgan and now preece all seem like theyl play good for 4 or 5 games then a real costly howler!
Yes, it was a howler... Not defending in anyway here, but was it really costly? Suppose it will show at end of season though
so its ok for the outfield players to make 3-4 mistakes a game but when the keeper makes one every one gets on their backs theres 10 in front of keeper blame them first.there was a mistake from the keeper but nalise rest of team in same way.
Re: 5 conceded- Preece messed up on two, no defending on another two Saw the goals first-hand yeasterday, and now on Sky Sports. 1st goal - QPR player allowed to run at us unchallenged, and allowed free shot. 2nd goal - Piss poor defending, naive. Two Barnsley players go to one QPR player, who simply threads the ball inside our full-back to an unmarked runner. Preece gets a weak hand to the cross shot and it goes in. Goalkeeper + defence at fault. 3rd goal - The so called "wonder strike". Their player had all the time in the world to shoot, no Barnsley player within 5 yards of him. Our nearest defender just stood off - as in the 1st goal. 4th goal - Preece fumbles - at fault. 5th goal - Unsure of what happened, typical goalmouth scramble when we didn't clear. Basic stuff like quickly closing down the opposition players needs to be drilled in by M.R.
