Writing this pissed off on the train back to work in Farnham on the return leg of a 400 mile round trip 1) Not signing a left footed left back. Pretty much to a man everyone on here has agreed we've needed one for three years. We still haven't got one. As someone round me said, Parry tore Potter a new arsehole last night. It was clear second half they'd been told to get the ball down that side, everything came from down there. 2) Waiting till the last minute to sign the players we have done. We've been caught before with these foreign signings, Christ knows we fooking sign enough foreign players, why aren't we more proactive in getting them in earlier or more efficient at getting the clearance through? 3) Clearing out (admittedly crap) experienced pros without signing replacements. So now we have a wafer thin squad, where underperformers are guaranteed a start every week, or young developing players have to be thrown in at the deep end and potentially put back two years. 4) No goalscoring striker signed. We know they arent cheap, but its clear that we don't have anyone who's going to get into double figures. Even if we'd had to cash in on JCR or ADS to secure the funds for one, it would have been worthwhile as surely you have to prioritise the most pressing needs first. 5) Left. Footed. Players. On. The. Left. Hand. Side. Everyone knew these problems were present, even those who've backed Davey, yet we've done nothing to sort them out. It's been a Summer of Nero like fiddling. Fooking rubbish.
Main error, Cryne didn't get rid of Davey when he had the perfect chance. Instead he's allowed him to waste more money and ignore areas that we need urgent improvement. My personal view is he needs to get shut this week but main concern is the small amount of time left to get someone else in and do something before the transfer window closes.
Agree 100% but there are other things that nee sorting too.... we need cover at CB.... I know we've signed Thompson but we've never seen him play in defence. Sad to say a RB.... with Foster playing in the middle, Hassell(one of my favourite players) just isnt quick enough. A creative midielder... we just are clueless in the middle of the park and just create nothing Whoever is in charge has some serious work to do bringing in players either permenantly or on loan I think at least 4/5
RE: You forgot the biggest schoolboy error Not sacking this clown when it was obvious he was and still is clueless. But I agree with everything you say about the playing staff.
Excellent post and saved me a job because i was going to write the same this morning. With this defensive unit we have we'll be relegated by xmas. They aren't anywhere near good enough. It must be the slowest defensive unit in the entire football league. Throwing kids into the 1st eleven at Championship level is a major gamble and unless they are highly talented (2 Kyle's at United are an example) it will destroy them ..... just like Potter found out last night and Butterfield isn't far behind. We need a centre half with some pace and 2 full backs with the same (esp' Left Back) and have done for years. Since the end of the season we've lost 5(?) squad players and replaced them with nobody .... to have this situation again where we are desperately trying to arrange international clearance for new players 2 weeks into the new season is a complete embarrassment for the people running the place. Once (last season) was bad enough but not to have learnt from it is a complete joke. How long will we wait for Andy Gray .... untill the end of September when we are 10 points adrift at the bottom ? I agree with Davey, last nights performance was embarrassing and there's plenty more of them to come mark my words.....but so is the way the club has managed it's transfer policy over the summer. We just look totally unprofessional. It's a joke (or should i say we are a joke) ................ but nobody's laughing.
Agree with all that concerned more by Davey's statement that he's happy with the defence and has no intention to sign anyone. The left back thing is criminal, no excuses, I've said before that this alone will get him the sack eventually.
'Football people' Needed at a higher level within the club rather than clerical assistants in my opinion.
Not including Mr Cryne in that btw.

Just thinking that myself There was an old Burnley player ( missed his name ) on Talksport just now, still involved with the club now, in all footballing manners. We have no-one with any Barnsley history at the club except Barry Murphy doing his bit after the game! We need some passion and real Barnsley spirit in there ASAP
Depends What your definition of 'football person' is.
I'll keep mine to myself to save Site Admin a letter.

If PC was not at the games and isn't involved in the day to day running... ... who is SD responsible to ? It seems to me also that he is the only one who knows about football. When Wilson was here he had Winstanley, who can Davey confide in ? I have come around to Redstar's opinion that there needs to be a 'football' person on the board... not an ex player or manager necessarily but someone who has been involved in the running of a club.
I can't see Gray coming now to be honest - ten days to go and he played the full game last night, so it seems unlikely. Also, it looks like staying will be the best route to being in the Championship next season.
RE: If PC was not at the games and isn't involved in the day to day running... Somebody that can make things happen. Rather than officiate on re-naming the Ponty end.
We should have kept hold of John Glélé, he had the right qualities when he was on trial, but apparantly stood in the way of 'the development of luke potter'.. i think it's safe to say that the development of luke potter fell off a cliff after last night.
