Updated for this world cup. Obviously, it's a Christmas song as well now cause we're jinxed in July . Made me chuckle at least
It's the second time this year alone. They did one for the lionesses, I think as well I love it. The world cup's officially started now I've seen that
I still get tingles up my spine when I hear the first few bars of that song. Maybe it's crass and rubbish, but it's not to me. '96 was the best summer of my life. And, somewhat bizarrely, I still look exactly the f***ing same.
I was just talking to an old mate about 96 last week. Best 6 months of my life too, that ended with Southgate’s penalty (or a few minutes later at least, but that’s a story for the pub!). To this day I maintain that Three Lions is the saddest song I’ve heard, cos it brings on the feeling of that night. Me and a mate were all set for heading over to the 24 hour shop, buying a crate of beer and getting the next 24 bus to Trafalgar Square. Instead, after a cool sharp exit from the pub, about 15 minutes after Southgate missed I was back home and tucked up in bed with a face on (ignoring the knocks on the door…pub story!) beating the 60 minutes it took after the Ipswich play-off final, but a good 14 minutes later than after Chris Waddle’s penalty in 1990. In fact, I think I was in bed with the covers over my head before Waddle’s penalty landed back on earth. I think my march to my bed in 1986 was delayed by me shouting obscenities at Diego Maradona via my TV set. As for the new version, I think it’s great. I won’t be listening to it again though, cos it takes me back to standing in a pub in Hampstead, feeling very sorry for myself and looking round the pub and…I’ll tell you that story another time!
Isn’t it sad getting older, quite like it but unless we win it ,this is the only year it will ever be played
It's amazing what you can do with auto tune these days. Didn't have that back in '96. Did make me chuckle though...
Well it made me laugh, if we win it they'll have a pension fund as good as Noddy Holders cause it'll be played every Christmas in England forever
Cast's Walkaway is what I remember as the saddest song, after the BBC played it over the closing credits after the semi final. As for this version, they've made it a parody version and put some jokes in. All for it.
