How can you do an hour and half about British indie/alternative music and miss out Radiohead completely?
I saw one episode The one about Black Sabbath and the birth of heavy metal - I thought it just skimmed over it and seemed to concentrate too much on 2 or 3 bands.
no radiohead agreed fella , wedding present got a mention though so im happy !! where were carter the unstoppable sex machine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how can you have one about grunge rock which featured nirvana and never mention the chili peppers who were the masters of it,but went on about rem who i would never describe as rock at all, strange who wtites these feckin programmes!
It wasn't really about grunge but American alternative rock. It was about how Corbain had more affinity with the likes of REM than with the grunge bands. In my view grunge produced very little of ant worth a part from Nirvana and Mudhoney. I wouldn't class Chilli Peppers as grunge because they did not belong from that scene. They really came from the Californian hardcore scene, and although I have no time for them I feel that they should have warranted a mention because of the way they have crossed over in tgo the mainstream. The band who should have been bigged up more but weren't were Husker Du, who were one of the first bands from the hardcore scene to be signed to a major label and actually showed that bands from that scene could write solid sensitive pop songs.
husker du bob mould is a true genius , got into sugar in the early 90's and then backtracked his career into husker du ,
Bit disappointed in it, I was really looking forward to the programme, but it seemed to concentrate on one or two bands in each programme (eg Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, The Smiths). I couldn't understand why there wasn't more stuff on Led Zeppelin apart from a brief mention, considering their impact, The Smiths were very influential (though I can't stand Morrissey), but I don't think they warranted the amount of time spent on them. Many bands seemed to be missed off altogether (Radiohead - as already pointed out and Muse spring to mind). Overall a pretty dull effort.
Disagree on the Smiths, vastly important. I thought too much time was spent on Oasis and Noel aren't I the greatest Gallagher. When asked about the third album Noel described it as "the same old pub rock bollacks" and thats sums up the Oasis sound for me. Status Quo for the 90's.
Yea... but they weren't hip man. Like Quo ploughed the same furrow year after year thats what Oasis have done. Nothing different, nothing new and no inventiveness.
