Signed by Preston from Bury

I wonder whether the Preston fans gave him the same sort of stick when he first arrived at Deepdale that some of ours are giving Matthis and Constantine ?

Not me big 'un, I'll wait until i've seen em play a dozen games before I judge them.

We shouldn't be signing players from the leagues below us, not a BIG club like us , we were in the Premier League don'tchaknow !!!!

Also you can't sign good players from down there, I mean these non league types like that crappy Ian Wright, never made a footballer !!!!

I know what you mean , mate

We shouldn't have signed the likes of Howard and Hassell . Nor David Currie , nor Derek Bell . When we signed Bell from Halifax , although in the same division , there was a huge gulf between the clubs . We were going for promotion , they were battling against re election . Our gates were similar to the ones at present , they were getting attendances of around 1500 !! But no one said ,"Why have we signed someone from Halifax ? How can he possibly be good enough to improve our team?".
Just for the record , we won promotion and Bell was our top scorer .

Clarke was improving the squad all the time

Bell and Graham's time was up , it was time for Aylott and Parker . That was Parker from the soon to be relegated 1979/80 Southend team . "How can he be any good , if his former team is bottom of the table?".
