Time really does go quickly. It doesn't feel like six years today since the horrible terrorist attacks in America. God bless all who were affected by the happenings on that day. Best wishes to our American members on the BBS as well. September 9th 2001 is one of those days where everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news.
Do you remember reports coming through.. that they had shot a fourth plane down? The one that became the heroes plane? United 93
I Watched The Movie United 93 It's a pretty worrying movie knowing what it's based on and one for people to watch to have an idea of how the people on the plane will have felt.
RE: Do you remember reports coming through.. my memories are of total confusion, none of the news networks had any idea what was happening, there was all kinds of reports coming in both founded and unfounded. When the first plane hit, which i didnt see,it was presumed to be a accident, this is when i started to watch it on the rolling news networks out of curiosity, not knowing what was about to happen, then the second one hit and the realisation that this was no accident, totally surreal to watch it all unfold, truly unbelievable, wish i had sky+ back then.
I remember watching live on TV when I got a call to let me know what was happening. I was just sat there dumbstruck. I couldn't believe it. It was all too much to take in...........then the 1st of the towers collapsed.......
One of the museums in Washington DC Apologies I don't recall which one but there are a few there! But this particular one when I visited in Sept 2002 had a very good exhibit of 9/11 including showing the news footage as it happened, quite interesting to see the news reports just before the story broke, up to that point it was a very slow news day with the lead story being Michael Jordan coming out of retirement. That soon changed but you get a sense of the confusion that was going on. There's a very good documentary as well that just follows the day in the CNN newsroom. I recall the confusion about what was happening in Washington, as from the CNN offices they could see smoke but from their offices all they could tell is the direction and they were reports that the White House had been hit. The memorials outside almost every firehouse in Manhattan are very moving. Just last week I was in a museum in Philadelphia watching footage of the planes hitting the WTC, never fails to send shivers down the spine.
I was at work and someone who had just read on internet about first plane, at first thoughts were an accident and then there were reports of a 2nd and then the attack on the Pentagon….at that it was clear it was a terrorist attack. I remember driving home on the motorway and nobody was cutting up etc….it was quite clear that almost everyone was listening to the news on the radio. I got home and put TV on and then tried calling a friend in the US whose sister was a flight attendant for United Airlines, when I finally got through a couple of hours later it was the sister who answered the phone, said that the phone had been ringing all day with people checking she was ok. I don't think I watched anything else on TV for days.
the next day the double spread in the sun must have looked at it for hours on and off trying to imagine what those people must have gone through
I was on a welding course in Cambridge. Somebody told me the towers had been hit and not quite grasping the news I replied, "Yes, they're big." I think everyone was grateful for my knowledgeable insight.
Watched it live on tv. Only thing I have ever seen on tv that left me dumbstruck. I am usually pretty unshockable but that did it.
I was half way up a tower block in Bingley on the outside when some old guy opened his window and said "fecking hell i dont believe what am seeing"watched it all unfold through the 7th floor of his window.Very sad day for the Western world.
