7 on Saturday. 16 in two games. I'm bored and a bit sad, so I thought I'd compare that to how we were doing at home last season. Discounting the last game of the season kick about against QPR when the fate of both clubs was already sealed, and working backwards: 3 shots on target against Leeds, none at all against Burnley, 3 against Brighton, 3 against Bournemouth, none against Leicester, 2 against Forest, 4 against Millwall and 3 against Ipswich. It took us 8 games and over two months to get more shots on target than we've had in the last 4 days. There's only one stat that really matters, that's the result. The only other one worth looking at is how many we score (and concede). But I lost count of the times I read that what people really want us for us to to ditch the negative tactics and have a go at teams. We're doing that already. If we continue to have as many efforts at goal and create as many chances, the goals will come.
50 cents gunman got 9 on target, 2pacs and Biggies only got a combined 5 on target and they achieved what the wanted.
Frustrating that Sam W in particular couldn't put some of his away. If he gets that first one he'll probably score a bagful. I'm not sure we should have played Lita last night. He didn't look fully fit to me. Lack of defensive concentration and absence of a commanding ball-winner in midfield are worries though. Cranie into midfield solves both issues? (With Big Jean in his proper position?).
I don't think he was, but I would imagine Wilson wants to get his number one striker fully fit as quickly as possible and the best way to do that is give him games. The league cup isn't the priority, so last night seemed like the ideal opportunity to get him going. Hopefully it will have blown a few cobwebs away and he'll be sharper on Saturday for another 60 minutes or a second half sub appearance.
