Along the lines of a London Tykes one we have which was won by Steve Dawson this year. Every match we open a MOTM thread and anyone who attends votes for their top 3 performances. Your top choice would be awarded 3 points, 2nd =2 & 3rd =1. Completely democratic. These are then totted up match by match and tallied over the season to give us our POTY. We can even award the winner something daft. I'll be rolling it out 3rd August after we beat Wigan. You REDS!!
Great idea. But you do realise I'll be voting for Wiseman, Dagnall and McNulty every week, don't you?
In the past when we've had MOTM polls people have often set them up so you HAVE to vote to see the result. I know it sounds obvious but please don't do that, @Mr C.
I just planned a thread where people vote and the info is collated, not that different to guess the crowd where people can see the stats. Maybe give it a week for people to get their votes in. We can't really do much if people vote who didn't see the game, and there's a question whether people can vote after seeing the match on Barnsley player. It's not fool proof but hopefully most people will respect the idea. As for accuracy of results, in the London Tykes vote, Dawson had won it by January and then he gets injured, suspended and has a largely uninvolved rest the season. From January, a lot of the points were going to the 'dead wood' players who had previously under performed or hadn't featured under Keith Hill. Players like Luke and Perks had performed steadily in the voting all season, but still no-one caught Dawson. We'll roll it out, set a few ground rules and give it a tweek as we go along. Guess the crowd was very popular, so hopefully people join in. If anyone has any thoughts please speak up! I'm looking forward to Hemzie's vote where Luke saves three penalties and doesn't get placed.
Great idea Prizes could be a signed shirt for the top player (signed by members of bbs) I like the idea of a bottom player prize too seeing as we all like a good moan The prize for this could be a boot with a nail in the sole as a mark of respect to my old mans favourite saying whena player had underperformed,"I could play better with a nail up int booit".
Good idea. The results at the end would be pretty interesting. You could look at things like the average points per game played for each player to see who might have won had they not got injured/sold/dropped. You could also create things like a line graph to see how each player's score progresses through the season. The comparison between the Hill and Flicker eras would have been interesting.
It will give stats on broad range of opinion and you could look at them in different contexts - most improved player etc. There are still some who think Perkins just runs around a lot.
Maybe it'd be "interesting" if people indicated when voting whether they'd attended, watched online, listened to commentary, monitored the game on BBC text updates or just looked at the result and dreamed the rest. Then you could get @paul.d to do some serious statistical analysis.
