Us getting promotion is way more important in the scheme of things to England winning the world cup. ????

I mean on a personal basis of course, i seem to expect England to **** up like they normally do so the Play off final win was the top of the pile for me,

    Reds first every time.

Promotion made my summer - England win would be a cherry on the cake, no more.

I concur......having a passion for and pride in your local town is understandable and honourable. We all know barnsley inside out, probably grew up here or have family here, we all speak with same accent, have had similar experiences of growing up, been threw and survived an onslaught from a right wing government, been drunk in japaneese whispers, walked home when missed last bus and no money for a taxi, spent years of our lives at oakwell and all the rest of it...

Compared to that, I don't feel I have much in common with a stock broker from Essex, the Queen, the establishment and the media machine whipping up patiotism/nationalism/xenophobia etc.

I'm not saying I want England to lose but we are not all sheep and shouldn't been assumed to be either...

(I know I'm going to get slaughtered for this minority opinion)(blagger)

Totally agree. Just going through the motions of watching games if they're on. Good excuse for sessions of ale tho !

    Of course

And I get to have the smug, satisfied look at work whilst nobody else does....rather than if England win the
World Cup every man and his dog will claim to be life long football fans.

I've never been in Japanese Whispers even though I was old enough to - or any of the other incarnations of the place.
