Great story. better videos than this one online. https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news...man-chain-to-rescue-man-in-sea-by-durdle-door
What gets me is that people can see that there is literally a rescue of someone going on and they are still letting their children paddle.
Not even for the safety aspect that if someone else is in trouble their kids could be but if I had a kid near there i'd be getting them out of the area completely because if you see a rescue happening there's a good chance that someone is going to die and no child needs to see that happen in front of them
Agree on that aspect. But I think it took a while to register. Looking at those riptides kids shouldn’t have been anywhere in the vicinity. There are better views of the incident. The mail one comes from another angle. 1 brave soul looked like he had a float attached to him as he swam out ( guessing a lifeguard) to reach the 2 people in trouble. But was carried away by the force of the waves. Back towards shore fortunately.
Bit of a random reply but for anyone who doesn't know, if you ever get caught in a riptide which is dragging you out to sea DONT try to swim against it. You aren't stronger than the sea and all you'll do is tire yourself out whilst still getting dragged further from land and you will die. Instead swim sideways along the beach and you will eventually pop out of the rip and realise you aren't being dragged anymore. Then you can head back to the beach out of the riptide. If you feel tired dont fight it. Roll onto your back, spread your arms and legs and float. Ok you will get dragged further out but you are still alive, you have energy and you've bought yourself time for someone to notice you
