In May 2000 ZCU Tyke, aged 4, accompanied her dad (me) to Wembley. Since then she's seen us relegated, go into admin, scrape avoiding a second relegation.....Saturday was part of the pay-back. Next season will be her seventh full season following her beloved club. Hope it's another good one. WCU Tyke came along with us one day (Cardiff @ home 3-2 Mogs's birthday scored 2!) and after an hour had stopped referring to "them" and we were now "us". He used to say he was an athiest when he was asked his religion (my influence, possibly?), now he's a Barnsley fan (3½ years?) with a memory he said was the best weekend in his life! The message is, bring the kids with you, they'll soon get the bug!
Having been taken to the Vetch at an early age (5 I think) by my father I agree entierly, although for most of the last 14 years I've been wondering why he decided it'd be a good idea to subject me to it - it's definately been interesting though, barely a season goes by without us going to the last game with something to play with. Are Barnsley doing anything to encourage young kids to get more inolved with the club? We used to offer free tickets to schools at the Vetch and I think we're doing the same next season with more West Glam schools, as well as making under 8's season tickets free when they're purchased with an adult one. Definately a good idea IMO, especially if you're not going to be selling the ground out every week.
No, BFC don't do anything to local kids interested. Tragic really, all power to the Swans. Champions next year. Good luck
Another cycle completed. Took ar lasses lad to his first game - the Norwich match when we were relegated. He's been to about 7 or 8 games since, culminating in Saturday and seeing us promoted again. He likes Liverpool cause his dad does, his dad is also a Doncaster fan and Tom used to say that he liked Barnsley and donny equally but now says it's just Barnsley (his dad wasn't impressed when he learnt he was going to the playoff final!) and watching the game again since he was referring to Barnsley as "us" and "we"! p.s. He's still yet to see Barnsley win a game though!
