Let me put forward a scenario...this is just my warped mind at work. Lets suppose that GS like all of us knew that we needed to strengthen the squad at the start of the season. But like most managers he allowed his staff at the sharp end to advise him. AR says its is my opinion that the lads we have are good enough, ok no problem with that. We get into the season and it becomes obvious that this isnt the case, GS waits to see if AR has spotted what 9000 other folk have but no Mr Chairman I'd like to buy so and so call comes from AR. So, and as a manager I have done this myself in business he starts to quietly suggest players who would come within our budget that might be usefull to us. If I were GS I would expect AR to at the least look at my suggestion and even if it was knocked back I would expect a call or a memo or smoke signal saying we cant use so and so because.......but we are looking at this guy who I think will do a job. Lets say that GS genuinely likes AR and doesnt want to show him the door. We start to free fall and cant win games to save our lives despite the players giving 150% each week, GS is seeing no movement from AR and knows that before long he will be left with no choice but to change managers so having tried the softly approach he goes on radio and issues a serious kick up the backside in public knowing that AR will not be able to avoid responding either in a positive way or by chucking the towel in. Maybe the whole thing was calculated to get things moving, lets face it any of us who have met GS know he isnt a silly man and always has a reason for what he does. to be fair although not the player we would want in an ideal world at least Cadamatri coming in shows that the tatic has in part worked and we are starting to see more urgency in getting players in. I am not defending eitherGS or AR as I like them both but maybe this week will be a turning point in the season and maybe that was the whole reason behind it. Just my thoughts...probably a mile out BT
Maybe its PC who isn't happy with the current situation and GS is justifying his own position (dunno)
I agree with a lot of what you say - except that you have GS and AR the wrong way round. GS is the one that saw no reason to stregthen the squad - for financial reasons. Wage structure proves this and I remember a GS interview on 5-live the day after Cardiff in which he gave a very strong indication that financial stability was his priority and he did not intend to follow the paths of some "other" chairmen - and we know EXACTLY who he was referring to there. This is not a bad way to view things BUT BUT I say again - Do we want to support a nice, financially secure League 2 side. It does not have to be one or the other, you can strengthen the squad with the right type of players without breaking the bank.
"Do we want to support a nice, financially secure League 2 side. It does not have to be one or the other, you can strengthen the squad with the right type of players without breaking the bank"</p> </p> Well, 'yes' can surely be the only answer there if the alternative is the financially crippling downwards spiral we went through once before. The club wouldn't survive another administration - we came bloody close to meltdown last time.</p> I don't doubt the last bit of your comment and that is clearly what AR & GS are trying to do, but without a suggestion as to how you tempt those players to actually come, it's a pretty hollow statement. The 'right type of players' unfortunately know they're the 'right type' and expect silly money in return.</p>
