But the blog is meant to be an opinion and is not intended to tow the party line, so here it is. If you can't abide a bad word about any players, don't read http://shoot.co.uk/tykes-must-learn-from-defeat/
Brown and Dudgeon haven't really done a lot wrong this season, none of the defence have really so I think we can put their performance on Saturday down as a one off - we can probably carry two or three players having an off-day, the trouble is it was eight or nine on Saturday. That being said our midfield was so ineffective it was unreal, if we'd have scored first or maybe even at 2-0 down I think the game would have been very different, but that was never going to happen because we just couldn't get hold of the ball in midfield. I can't actually comment on how our goals were scored as I was well on the way to the boozer before we got the first, but I suspect at 5-0 MK were happy to settle for what they'd got and not pick up any injuries. Jennings needs to sort himself out and I'm not sure how long we can give Luke Berry to get used to this division because, for me, he's not playing any better than he did in his first game and if we are to do anything this season he needs to offer more going forward...maybe he's just not being played in a position he feels comfortable.
Some fair points but would question one or two if I may? You say the last ten minutes were our only positives but personally I thought the first 20 mins had lots of encouraging signs going forward at least and if we had taken those chances it may have been a different outcome IMO. Secondly you say Reece brown was out of position which is fair comment and that he was out of his depth which is also fair comment ,but then you say Danny brought him in to play that role which may or may not be so but if he did then Danny has to take full responsibility IMO .before he signed him he should at least be armed with knowledge of the p!ayer and his roles.. I cannot understand this modern phenomenon of persistently using square pegs etc etc. Just an opinion Well done for the blog and raising interesting points again.
Thanks for the thoughts; One can only assume Danny brought in Brown as a right back because he didn't sign or apparently even try to sign another right back, and the only other one we have is 16. With regards to jedstar's comments, I'll be honest that I haven't seen everything of Brown, but a lot of people who've been away have said he's been torn apart in previous games too. I can't use that as an argument as I haven't seen it, but you do wonder. You're right Marlon that the first ten minutes were decent, but we only created a couple of chances. I wouldn't say it was overly positive, it's what I'd expect us to do early on in a game in this league.
As per usual, Allen, I enjoyed your write up, mate. If my requests for patience with the recently constructed young squad and objections to what I believe are OTT criticism of some of the kids are construed as towing the party line, I don't care.
fair and honest criticism is always appreciated and welcomed, its the nimrods that abuse the players I cant stand
Agreed with every word apart from I don't feel sorry for Adam Davies. The lad should count himself extremely fortunate.
Ha, not at all Kev; Just I know a few folk can't have a bad word said about anyone in the team. I deliberately didn't mention Abbott and Digby, who I could also have brought into it. I had one of our players (not currently first team) following me on Twitter until Saturday, when I voiced my disappointment at the performance. Clearly unfollowed me because I don't gush with praise when we're crap, which is fine, because I won't be anyone's mouthpiece
One must not be seen to be too pessimistic. Otherwise one is not a supporter/follower, according to some. Those who have not yet seen the glowing future need to adorn the appropriate rose tinted specs. Ignore what you saw on Saturday, put it down to a one (five actually) off. Owt could yet happen. But nowt will, with what we curently have. Why play 2 players palpably out of position? Why say we need a target man now - 6 games gone - could it not have been worked out before the season started, that hoofing it up to the forwards we have is not a smart tactic? It is not too late to rescue this, with measures that seem obvious to the majority who post football stuff on this board. There are some decent players here. But not enough to do owt as it stands. Do we think halfway in the league and finding ourselves 5-0 down at home last Saturday in League 1 is cause for optimism? 40 games to go......
I thought we were poor on Saturday and said the late three goals we scored shouldn't be allowed to mask that. However, even if it means I'm in a minority, I'm not prepared to start subjecting our players, especially the young & inexperienced ones, to the vile abuse I witnessed in the ground or what I believe to be over the top criticism posted on here. Others can do as they see fit, but so can I. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?216122-We-ve-been-given-a-footballing-lesson-today
An informative read as I was not at the game. "there were certainly some lessons to be learnt in this game." the question is will/can they learn and do they have the ability to learn? All will be revealed in the next few months
I'd just like to say that I think Journo Tyke's well-considered write-up, though I don't agree with all of it, is a far cry from the kind of nonsense you insist on posting here after every defeat.
