From MUST some tributes to Taylor, Jones and Wood http://www.joinmust.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38976 http://www.joinmust.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39064 http://www.joinmust.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39881 Well worth a read
Stirring stuff A friend of mine remembers Mark waiting at the bottom of the hill in Wombwell on market days and offering to carry the ladies shopping home. And when he'd done that he'd return to help someone else. Big strong lad, as honest as the day was long.
RE: Blimey There are tributes to all the players on that site, it is a superb archive and memorial to the team.
Look at the stats Tommy played a total of 191 games in all competitions for United scoring 131 goals. He was capped 18 times for England and scored 16 goals. RIP Tommy, a TRUE Barnsley legend
I read the Tommy Taylor one yesterday... </p> ...along with a lot of other stuff in the press and on the web, what a bloke he was. </p> He's made my "top 5 people you'd liked to have met" list. If only today's England stars could be more like him, instead of being plastered all over the Sun for shagging some lass, or bringing out the 2ndpart of their"autobiography" at the age of 19.</p> RIP Tommy, and the rest of the Busby Babes.</p>
"Tommy played a total of 191 games in all competitions for United scoring 131 goals." he really was a great striker. what was his record for us?
Is Official ***** Going To Mention Them Today? Should be a really good tribute on there about the lads who sadly passed and are linked to us.
RE: "Tommy played a total of 191 games in all competitions for United scoring 131 goals." 28 goals in 46 games. What would he be worth nowadays?
Brilliant I wish the club would do something in his memory, he must have been one of our greatest ever players.
RE: he'd be worth a few mill Not sure on this but I believe that was a record transfer at the time. Barnsley and Manchester didn't want him to become the first £30,000 player but that was the fee agreed and so when leaving the Man Utd. chairman gave the tea lady the other £1, lot of money in them days. He was an incredible player. Wish I had been around to see him.
RE: he'd be worth a few mill It was close to being a record. Jackie Sewell signed for Sheffield Wednesday for £35,000. Your right though, he signed for United for £29,999 to prevent him from having the burden of a £30,000 player.
