A Moral Question - What would you have done...?

I've just been to a cashpoint. I was texting a message while the bloke in front of me used the machine. He leaves, and i'm just about to put my card in. However, the machine says that "your cash is been counted", and lo and behold, £100 pops out. I look up, and the bloke is nowhere to be seen.

Now then, I had a massive decision to make, cos i'm skint just before payday. At first, I thought about pocketing it, but then a thought flashed through my head that it would be some hidden camera show, and I would get stitched up with about 500 cameras and a dodgy presenter in my face.

I then thought about pocketing £20, and handing in £80.

In the end, I bottled it and handed the whole amount in, behind the counter. They took my name and number and said that if it is not claimed within 30 days, then I get to keep the money.

WHAT WOULD YOU MORALLY OBJECTIVE CHAPS HAVE DONE???

    I'd have done the same!

I found a card sticking out of the machine once - guy had actually put his pin number on the card on a sticky label! Could have had some fun if I wanted to :D Oh and I did hand it in!

    I did exactly the same...

with exactly the same amount a couple of years ago.

after taking the cash off a bloke who walked past the machine and got to it before I did, I handed it in and left my details with the bank (in case it wasn't claimed), the woman who's cash it was phoned me and asked me to meet her, and she gave me £20 for my honesty... she also thought I was about 10 years younger that I actually was when she said 'there's not many young 'uns so honest nowadays', so that was nice... hehe...

If the moneys not taken out, some machines take it back in after a couple of minutes. I got talking to a friend as the money came out, and before I could grab it, it was back inside the ATM. the bank credited my account with the money about 5 weeks later.

    It's good to know that

..there are still some honest folk around that still do that. You did right,I would have done the same. And if I was the guy who had left it behind I would leave £20 with the bank to give back to you.

happened to me at the old halifax in barnsley years ago...

Some lass with her young un drew £60 out and walked off without it. I ran after her and handed it back to her half way down market hill. its the decent and proper thing to do! (Y)

    Same as you

A few years ago I was at Manchester Airport in WH Smiths and I overheard a family, a kid (about 8 or 9) was crying and it turned out he'd lost his spending money he had for the airport. After they'd gone I was browsing the shelves and noticed a folded tenner on the bottom shelf, I picked it up and went to see if I could find the family, managed to find them and asked the dad if his lad had lost some money and he called over this lad who was still crying, far better feeling to give the money back to that lad than keep it. If I'd not found them it was going in a charity box.

I once got out of the passenger seat of a car (on way to a club) and drew 100 quid out of the m/c. Got back in the car and left money in the m/c ( (blaze) ). It clicked after about 5 mins. Went back, it had gone. Never recovered it after contacting the bank. Some tw@t had a good un on me that night.

Personally I would hand it in, now. Years ago I would have pocketed it and probably followed Dirk and Windys lead, and headed for the pu$$y parlour.

Person in front of me left their card still in the machine!

They'd entered the PIN then for some reason walked off. I could have took whatever they had in, especially as I had the opportunity to change the PIN number.

I handed it in behind the counter - I was only 16 at time, so plenty of temptation to use and abuse.
