No, not me. A Lincoln fan on another forum who was at the game summed us up perfectly today: Winnall was completely isolated up top and although Crowley tried, there's not a great deal you can do when the rest of your midfield are content passing it from side to side and aren't prepared to break through into the final third. There's far too many "safety first" players in that side - you know the type, the full backs who cut back when receiving the ball and pass it back to the midfielder because they're too afraid to beat their man, and midfielders who are afraid themselves of crossing the half way line and attempting to break forward. I think he's spot on. I don't like Winnall up top on his own and I don't like the fact we've one of the most talented midfield's in the division but are so cautious at home. It goes back to last season and while we've had a couple of solid wins this season, we still look very tentative going forwards apart from the first 20 minutes of games. Bradford were a decent side but they were bottom for a reason going into the game and it's a shame we didn't sustain the pressure of the first 20 minutes. We constantly looked to pass it back or sideways after that, and when it did go forward no-one elected to shoot. A bit of a disappointing performance today but there's a lot better to come from this young side, Johnson just needs to find the right formation and tactics to allow them to reach their potential.
one sentence.. "finding ones feet"... this is a seriously young and in experienced team ... we have won 2 drawn 1 lost 1 in the league... we are 1 poit from the top six & 3 points would put us in the automatic places... we still need a lot of bonding .. gelling ... whatever.. canwe please give it a long term attempt for just once... PLEASE!!
It is always good to get a neutral perspective. The only way you're going to get an unbiased opinion that calls the game exactly how it was. Can't disagree with the comments made either. We were far too patient in our build up. The one time we did have a bit of flow, we forced their keeper into a good save from Pearson (I think), just before half time. Of course he is and given how many he has played for us he is perhaps the most consistent player we have. Not his best yesterday but to be honest it's not a role he excels in
Re: one sentence.. A few more of yesterdays drab displays and the long term plan will be having a serious wobble
Re: one sentence.. Playing right back at chesterfield, in line with the centre backs yesterday, right of midfield last week. The poor sod must have no idea what his role is supposed to be.
Agree with the Lincoln fan. I'm not doing away games this year so I've only seen us in the two home games & I don't think there's any clear strategy in what we're trying to do. I think he's wasted loan signings. His tactics don't make any sense. I can't help but think he's the second coming of Simon Davey & just signs a group of talented players & hope they gel rather than go out & build a team
