Hi Guys, Posted this on another board but thought i'd stick it on here. A have recently started a blog on the teams in South Yorkshire and started with Barnsley I've been to see a few of your games and below is my review. Notice how I've got something wrong at the bottom already! Anyway, any feedback is appreciated Cheers http://southyorkshirefootball.blog.co.uk/2009/11/08/barnsley-fc-has-robins-made-his-mark-7331589/ You can also follow the blog on twitter at - http://twitter.com/YkshireFootball
Yes, I also agree about the midfield. I think that it is very encouraging that we are creating a lot of chances though without really having anyone pulling the strings in the centre. Once we fill that void I think we will be a lot stronger and this will also help take some of the pressure off the defence. I would imagine a midfielder is Robin's Number 1 target for January.
Personally, I think the midfield's fine as it is and doesn't need tinkering too much. Their's enough influential player in the likes of de Silva, Hallfredsson, Hammill, Butterfield and Campbell-Ryce. I'd like to see us get Doyle back on loan until the end of the season then we'll have Colace, Doyle and even Hassell to act in the middle as 'stoppers'. We have 4 decent strikers in A.Gray, Hume, Bogdanovic and Macken - would be happy with those 4 this season. I'd hope a CB is on Robins' mind come January, happy with the 2 Stoke full backs (hope we get them for the season). Someone who could slot in and fill the void to partner Foster as Moore won't last a full season. This has been proved already, he didn't play at QPR and we conceded 5.
A bit harsh on Steele I do see him as our long term goal keeping solution. He's a great shot stopper and while his command of his area is not always perfect, Muller's was pretty dodgy at times. Plus he's only 25, so still pretty young for a keeper
Good content but... ...poor grammar! Sorry, but I'm a bit pedantic like that. If you need some editorial help (for a small fee ) I would be happy to proof read any future submissions and correct accordingly. That said, poor English is not uncommon around here.
We could share the duties if you like Let's face it, it would be a full time job for one person on here. I know there are plenty of other things to occupy the mind, especially on a day like the 11th of November, but the mangling of the English language really annoys me. I'm surrounded by high ranking RAF officers here at work, some with Masters degrees, and the standard of English leaves a lot to be desired. I have to read a lot of complex briefs that go up to 3- and 4-star level and it is rare to see one that needs no editorial input from me. I'm not sure what the answer is though. Maybe good written English is too much to ask these days... (chinny)
Ok we could share or perhaps we could have a vocabulary shoot-out? I know what you mean about the standard of English, I work in IT for Jaguar Cars and we get some very poorly worded emails from HR etc. My pet hate at the moment is "definAtely". Mind you one of my favourites is a notice I spotted at Conkers (National Forest visitor centre). I think it meant to say "you can't drive your car down this path" what it actually said was "No Access to Cars", I had visions of people milling round tring to find another way back to their vehicles.
I would argue not If you were saying that something had been "proof-read", as in the task has already been done, then I think a hyphen is correct. However, to offer to proof read something does not warrant a hyphen. However, that is just my perception and I do not own an English grammar book, or a dictionary, or a thesaurus. I write intuitiviely and I could be wrong!
