For a few years now I've been bringing a mate of mine over from Chester to the occasional match. He's a sort of lapsed Chester/part time tv Man United fan but despite those failings he does like his football.
He's seen both ends of the spectrum. We were both there when we lost 6-0 at home to Charlton. He saw us beat Wolves that night in Flicker's great escape. He was at Wembley last month.
In all of that he's commiserated in defeat and graciously clapped when we've scored. He's enjoyed most of the games and wished us well in a neutral sort of way.
Yesterday....he was yelling at the ref about Bradshaw.....gazing round at the packed Ponty ...loving the noise....and went bananas alongside me when Sam ripped the heart out of them. Up on his feet, cheering, clapping, big grin on his face. He loved every minute of it. Seems we finally got to him. I think I'd better buy him a scarf.
    :)

I did the same with a good mate of mine, he supported West Ham but never got to see many games with living up here, took him down to Oakwell and loved the place and atmosphere plus rest of the lads took him under their wing and made him feel part of a group, now he sings like a loon with the rest of us, goes to most games including Wembley and now when he talks about Barnsley it's "we" :)

    :) Probably two thirds BFC.
I don't think he's watched Chester for many a year, last season's match at Oakwell apart. He's been more of an armchair Man U fan but I think has become bored of the hype and greed swilling around at the top level. My brother in law is similar. Once a hardened armchair Man U fan who went to the odd game. Got fed up with the exploitation and greed around the time of the Glazers and switched to being an avid Chester fan, home and away. I think a lot of these Sky football supporters get a real shock (in a good way) when they start to watch real football on the terraces.
There's nothing involved in being an armchair fan that could begin to approach the buzz and euphoria of yesterday. Absolutely nothing.

The scariest bit of this post? "Wembley last month"!!! **** me, it feels an age back that - last month.....unreal.
