I have been loaned a turntable with audio component output only and I have appropriate cabling to attach this to a USB port on this pc. Would anyone be able to recommend how to get the pc to recognize the input so I can digitize my vinyl, please? Thank you in advance of your anticipated response.
You need a recording program. There are free versions out there (Google free recorder) or try Audacity. Once you have this you can feed in your turntable via the audio in (stereo) socket play your record and the record will produce a wav file you can write direct to disc. Do the tracks one at a time but careful with the input strength meter will tell you the level. You can then save each track to your desk top then write them all together. I bought a simple Sony soundforge from PC World (about £20 -£30) and it will take out the 'hisses' and doctor part of the crackles.
Audacity installed and seems to be working... but the pc still does not seem to recognise the audio input. Do I need to invest in a pre-amp?
RE: Audacity installed and seems to be working... but I found the same not able to set the input source. Try the program recommended by Uncle Mort works OK for MP3 files. If you need to produce WAV for a normal CD then check Sony Sound Forge not expensive at PC or Amazon.
RE: Audacity installed and seems to be working... but It can be a sod to configure with on-board sound.
I'm using it with a Creative USB external on another machine and it lets me select the "Line In" inputs from the card.
