Realistically what would they actually get back, those that have defrauded will be long gone and well covered. Sounds like a money pit of a quango that they think is a vote winner, but would just cost the public purse even more.

Perhaps they could start by investigating and prosecuting the "independent" "scientists" that we allowed to act like omniscient, disinterested philosopher kings and gave free reign to issue decrees that disrupted society, damaged the economy, and caused those most vulnerable in society to suffer untold abuse and harm; whilst they lined their pockets with lucrative share ownerships in big pharma and senior appointments in said companies when the fuss died down.

    *cough* JVT *cough*

I mean, it's just an idea.

I can’t be ãrsed with a debate on lockdown and all that but I agree that if people genuinely acted in the interest of themselves before the country, then yes they should be brought to justice.

Not what I meant, obviously. I question the motivation tho, altruistic or vote winner? If the costs of the position and investigation are not another drain on public finances then fine, but I doubt it.

When there’s UP TO £10bn on the table I think it’s worth a shot. If the costs spiral to anything like billions then whoever runs it needs putting on trial themselves!!

Just seize all assets of mates of the Tories between 2020 and 2022 and you get the money back. Simple.
