Maybe the reason why there were boos last night or a complete lack of atmosphere notably at the end is due to the negativity of the team and the manager? We didnt test the Blackpool keeper all night! We didnt create anything from open play. When we get hold of the ball we never look like doing anything with it. When up against ten men Davey brought off a winger and put on a defensive midfielder. We didnt ever look like scoring unless it was a set piece. Ten men virtually battered us. Now fair enough the lads will have been tired but isnt that where the massive squad Davey has assembled comes in? Surely its the negativity of the team and the manager that has caused the reaction last night. Maybe paying £20+ for entertainment and not getting any is good enough reason to complain. I think what it boils down to is that some people would rather win at all costs. For me personally if it means at the cost of having no entertainment for a lot of money i'll be keeping my money to go and do something else in future. Simon Davey says its a results business. For him it might be but for me its about entertainment. Cue the 'oh but we won so stop moaning brigade!'
I agree with you entirely and the children who think that the football doesn't matter, only the result does are entirely wrong. THEY BOTH MATTER!
this 'oh but we won so stop moaning brigade!' Are they a charity or just a group on facebook or something?
If you take last night's game in isolation Then yes it was ****.</p> However, they had played a very tough game on Saturday. At the start of the season I personally would have settled for fewer points than we've got at the minute and with a squad with so many additions it can take longer than 14 games for everything to work perfectly.</p> With regards to last night, I'm in no way a Grant McCann fan but when he came on he got a couple of tackles in which would have been missed cos the player he replaced was dead on his feet, so credit to Davey for taking a decision at that time to help see the game out and ensure 3 points.</p> A little bit of perspective on where we've come from as a club in our recent history and alsowith regards to players like Mostto, Odejayi etc wouldn't go amissand let's cut everyonefrom Davey through to the squad a little bit of slack and try and see the bigger picture which is steady progress up this league. I was ranting and raving a certain incidents and players last night, but the overall picture isn't that bad imho.</p> </p>
If only the result matters Then its page 317 on Ceefax at 5:00pm Saturday followed by page 325. Sorted. Cost £0.00.
Should it be taken in isolation? We were poor on Saturday and only thanks to a pen save did we cling on. Last night we could have taken the game to them when they were reduced to ten men. Are you telling me becaue our players were a bit tired we couldnt match ten men? Of course i would have took this many points so far but we have a long way to go. I cant say i have come out of a match this season thinking i really enjoyed that. i just come out thinking great we won but it wasnt worth the money! But my questions are about how much do we create in a match? Surely isnt nice passing moves with a finish what most people go to watch fooball for? Or is it the lump it in the air or hope we get a penalty/free kick /corner so we stand a chance of scoring? Now dont get me wrong im glad we are scoring a few from dead balls but we havent scored from open play in a long while and to be honest we dont look like doing neither. I guess its all down to taste. But overall Blackpool played the kind of football im used to enjoying at Oakwell. I just wish we could play something like it!
RE: If you take last night's game in isolation "overall picture isn't that bad imho"</p> The overall picture isn't bad at all. Yes the last few matches have been poor, but we have picked up points and kept moving in the right direction. We have proved we can play better earlier in the season, and hopefully we can get back there soon. Another international break coming up, so hopefully it gives us chance to re-group and work on the football that has been missing for the last few weeks. We would all love to see us playing good football again, but at least we are picking up points while we go through a rough patch. </p>
Summed up in one line That is how i feel. Of course im pleased we have won. If i cant get to the match i'll watch Sky/Ceefax and keep my fingers crossed. If im at the match i want to feel a bit more than that!
Here's some more positives for you Not so long ago we'd have drawn the game Vs Preston; and possibly lost against Blacpool. One point not six. Kozluk excellent Togwell not the finished article, but a very determined performance Howard - a bit more on the ball Ferenczi - never stops, and makes impact I feel we have been entertained this season, but I think it was unfair to expect a Brazil type performance last night. I was pleased last night, we ground out a victory when last season we may well have had nowt!
It looked like you were in your post That's why I said it.As an example, last year we went to Derby and wanked on them. They were booed off at half time. We lost.</p> This year generally we seem to be able to get something out of games even when not performing.</p> Did you go to Stoke ? because the football we played there, 1st half especially matched anything from the past few seasons. I still maintain though that this year avoiding relegation is the first task, and then trying to finish as high as possible. To be honest at the minute I don't care how we do it. I genuinely believe though that the longer these players stay at Championship level, the better they'll get.</p>
I don't know what some people want- entertainment v success v cost? <font size="2"> Seems McCarthy wants to see attractive football at Oakwell (no probs there) but I personally want Barnsley to succeed. If that means we get shat on for 93 mins but nick one to get three points, then so be it. It won't happen all season, because 1) we're not good enough to ride our luck that long and 2) we will play very well in some of our games this season, like we did at both Stoke and Southampton. I just think its all moaning for moaning's sake- its based on the assumuption that we'll play crap football all season, when that clearly won't be the case. But whilst we are playing poorly I'll take 6 pts from 6 anyday of the week, go to work with a smile on my face and not worry about it too much.</p> And this cost thing, its all you ever seem to hear about. Its costs £20 to get in whether we win or lose, whether we get promoted or relegated. You know that before you go- so if you go purely because you want to be entertained then go to the Cinema- that’s a £20 for two people and you know what you're getting pretty much. </p> Supporting your team is about so much than that. </p></font>
RE: Here's some more positives for you And some more. We won. We have 11 more points than this stage last season. We are 4th. We have 8 more points than both Sheffield clubs. We have had alot better start than any of us could imagine. Now for some negatives. The attendance was crap! The atmosphere was crap! The backing (lack of) of the players was crap! The reaction from the fans at the end was crap! If the teams performance was poor then the fans performance was even worse!
Why would anyone wish to argue to be negative? 5. characterized by the absence of distinguishing or marked qualities or features; lacking positive attributes (opposed to positive): a dull, lifeless, negative character. 6. lacking in constructiveness, helpfulness, optimism, cooperativeness, or the like: a man of negative viewpoint. 7. being without rewards, results, or effectiveness.
46 game season We won't play the same in every game, whether that's poor or 'entertaining'.</p> Why things have to polarise so much is beyond me. You can't have doubts/complaints without being a poor fan neither can you be happy with a poor performance but good result or else you'll put up with any old *****. Depends on individuals expectations/attitudes I suppose, and there's not a great deal anyone else can do about that.</p> As regards cost, I also believe football in general is too expensive, and our club in particular doesn't do enough to try and generate interest from 'part timers' and/or new supporters. That said, I pay up and trot along every week because from my perspective I'm a Barnsley supporter whether we're **** or brilliant. Doesn't make me any better or give me more right to pass commentthan anyone else, just gives me a differentoutlook on how the team performs and results than someone who wants to be entertained or whatever.</p> Blad de blah.</p> </p>
I agree re the cost of tickets <font size="2"> Which is why I suggested to the Trust that we have another "Community Day" when Palace come and its marketed as well as possible to get people back in. I'd have gone to £10, but they decided on £15 which is fair enough. I think £15 is perhaps about the right matchday price as it happens, if we can get the extra fans to sustain the price drop. </p> For me anyone who pays their money can say what they want, that’s the beauty of it. But for me the cost has never been a factor, and its not because I'm minted. Its about the day out and supporting your team, if I can afford it I will go. But I certainly wouldn't moan less if it was a tenner in, if we're ***** we're *****. Same as if we beat Leeds Utd like we did last year I don't expect to be charged more to get in.</p></font>
I'll take an unentertaining win over a loss every time. </p> In order -</p> 1) Entertaining win.</p> 2) Unentertaining win.</p> 3) Entertaining loss.</p> 4) Unentertaining loss.</p> We've gone from bottom to second in my chart so I'm happy. Man City were outclassed alomost every week the season they went up. They did it with determination, self belief and a never-say-die attitude. If we can't afford a classy squad I'll settle for just that.</p>
I've been on 'normal' tablets.</p> Don't worry, I'll take exception to some random post later and revert to lunacy.</p>
