Do you think messages which are homophobic or which contain offensive homophobic terminology should remain on this site?

    There haven't been any.

Saying 'dry loved' or calling a team 'gays' is not homophobic.

I'll tell you what I think.
I hate homophobia. I also hate swearing. I also hate racisim. I also hate sexism.
BUT on a football message board of all places (like in a football ground), there is a level of inevitability that there will be one or two inappropriate comments.
As I have pointed out elsewhere in the thread, we just don't have the time to police every single comment.
I think all of us would take action if we saw anything that was hurtful, spiteful, inappropriate.
Contrary to what some folks evidently think, we try to see what is a wind up, what is a joke, and what might just be clumsy.
Don't ask us to decipher all of it. We just do our best to keep it clean and yet still fun.

    Homophobia
    noun
    [mass noun]
an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people.

The posts were not, by definition, homophobic. Neither, in my opinion, were they offensive though I can see how others may disagree on that score.

That said I'd rather jokey posts in this vein than branding an entire club's fanbase as murderers. And yes, I do believe he meant Hillsborough not Heysel initially.

You've asked this question at least five times before. What do you think?

I think any offensive post should be removed be it racist, homophobic or sexist.

You claim to hate homophobia - have you ever removed a post that was homophobic? Or do you regard such post as 'acceptable' because they're on a football forum?

So do I but it's an impossible job as most humour and harmless banter can be construed as offensive in some way if someone is determined to be offended.
and the admin team are not full time professional censors but football fans who help run a message board in thir spare time. What Fired said above is spot on

Not summat I wanna get involved in really all this malarkey but the language although inappropriate wasn't homophobic. Possibly a little ignorant and offensive in the guise of humour but not clearly hompohobic whereas the comments about Hillsborough were well over the other side of nasty.

Who decides what's offensive? Something that may offend you, won't offend me. So how do we decide?

In my opinion, what site admin have always done, is let the jokey stuff stay on and delete anything that is genuinely hurtful, spiteful and nasty. Good policy as far as I'm concerned.

If you believe Whitey was trying to be hurtful, spiteful or nasty with anything he came out with yesterday then I would have to strongly disagree. If you found it offensive, then I'm afraid we can't help that, you have the right to be offended, you have the right to take offence, but you don't have the right to demand something is censored because you are offended. Well, actually, you do have that right, but other people have the right to say no to you.

I wouldn't have written what Whitey did, but I don't know anyone who thinks calling someone gay is hurtful, spiteful or nasty, because in the UK the vast majority of people don't give a crap if anyone is gay or not.

constantly trying get comments deemed as homophobic is pathectic, jokes are made about all walks of life, all colours, sexes, ages etc etc,but theres always someone trying to turn things into something they are not

dustani might be better off on a gay forum where they take the pi55 out of football:)

Just had a quick look on the Site admins Forum and there are two homophobic threads that have been removed recently.

I find plenty of threads on this site not to my taste, but if we removed everything we found distasteful, there would be nothing left.

Anything that gets personal, aggressive, offensive etc. gets removed. I'm not going to go into what is and what is not offensive .... it's how we interpret it, and unfortunately, you just have to trust us to do stuff as sensibly as we see fit.

Here here. I think the admins do a great job and allow almost everything through. What some people just don't see to get, is that there are forum rules, which EVERYONE signs up to. People don't have a leg to stand on, when they break the rules and get a ban.

I'm just glad Dustani and CricketJim aren't Leeds fans. A guy I used to work with was a Leeds supporter and was a member of their version of the BBS - The Leeds Service Crew. I'm not sure what it's like now, or even if it's still running, but the stuff posted on there was nasty, violent, pornographic (far from topless shots that get posted on here from time to time), homophobic, racist - the list goes on and on.

A couple of tongue-in-cheek posts from Whitey does not constitute a homophobic being.

To be fair, there's a lot of stuff on here that isn't family or children friendly. The homosexual innuendo doesn't have to be homophobic to be not needed. I dont believe in censoring posts, people should just realise that some stuff is just not needed. It's tired, old and boring in order to get a cheap laugh. But i guess that's what many folk like.
