X-box or PS3 ? number 1 son wants a new games console for christmas, which is the most futureproof (is that a word)
Definitely an Xbox mate. A huge selection of great games NOW and some great titles coming out. Not to mention Xbox live (which is awesome). I got mine about 2 month ago and I'm spending FAR too much time on it. Definite thumbs up.
Gotta recommend the XBox I wasn't going to get either of those, I was considering a Wii, but the X-Box is just awesome, the graphics etc are really impressive, and every game just seems better on there.
Think I'll get myself one after Christmas

Throw them all in the fuc-king bin and buy him a football. TM, aged 28 (dunno if thats a young'un or not).
Cant speak for the XBox, but I will highly recommend the PS3. The network online gaming is free, unlike XBox Live. It has some great games out already (not as many as XBox, but thats not surprising considering it has been out a lot longer). There are some real top games coming soon too. Apparently the PS3 is more reliable too, with a lot less failures than the XBox that likes to overheat. Whats more, the PS3 will soon support DivX format video, so you can download for 700Mb movies off the net and watch them through your PS3, without the need to convert them and burn them to a disc.
Ah, good point. I'm 28 too and I think I still may qualify as a young un (as far as this thread is concerned anyway).
XBox all the way Games are far better and there's a better choice - try and go for the Elite if you want to spend a bit but any of the systems will be ok!
RE: thanks you lot As LiverpoolRed said, spend a little more and get an Elite 360. I've had one for a couple of months, and I've already used over 20GB of memory (which is all you get with the premium console). It's only about 40pound more and worth it.
Are there any of you young buggers... ...in the camp of PC gaming? My way of thinking is if you already have the hardware, why not use it for gaming too? Plus, the games are often cheaper because they don't have the Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo markup on them. On the downside, everything doesn't necessarily work so smoothly with conflicts and such and the controllers are never much cop.
How many do have the technology for playing modern games? I haven't - decent gaming PC's aren't cheap - got to admit I prefer console gaming. For someone not too sure I'd stick to consoles
There's a cross-over point isn't there... ...when affordable graphics cards (this seems to me to be the crucial component) become better than an aging console platform's hardware. No doubt, at their launch, consoles offer massive "bang for buck". But I remember a few years ago buying a £70 graphics card for my basic 1.8Hz PC and it made my aging PS2 look like a Speccy. I agree it's safer to stick to consoles though. Not that I have the patience to play games.
