I know it's a while ago now but as something similar to this was posted the other evening, i would like to know what were the circumstances reguarding Dave Bassetts departure, as at the time i thought that there was more to it than was said at the time, did he fall out with John Dennis?, did he get pissed of with the Hignett sale? etc. I would also like to know if you feel that him going was the start of the downward spiral for us??? P.S 3-0 Reds win tomorrow and i hope that we send the thieving criminals from the dump that is Chesterfield soundly thrashed and sent packing back to their shithole town!!! Cheers
i think not giving john hendry more time was the start of the downward spiral, after all even tho basett go us to the play offs (well hignett did) some of the football played during bassetts reign was awful
Rumour and conjecture, but I heard he'd agreed to buy Richard Cresswell from Leicester and the board refused to back him with the cash. Who knows?
The hurried appointment of Hendrie was the start of the downward spiral in my opinion. I don't think he would ever have cut it as a manager, and the fact that he is now somewhat distanced from the game would seem to lend strength to that.</p> I believe you need to stick with managers - but you need to install somebody who is going to be worth sticking with in the first place.</p> Apart from Gudjon, i don't think anyone has been in that category, except Ritchie - and i do think he is worth sticking with.</p> Oh - and as for McCarthy - no, no, no.</p>
I used to work at BMB, owned by Reds director Chris Harrison... as I was the only reds fan there (believe it or not), I was privvy to a bit of news. He told me that Bassett had started to get into footy journo (I think he started to commentate on Channel 4's Football italia), Barnsley Fc began to come second in his lists of priorities.
I am sure he would have come out and said... Bassett, He left 'cos me & johnny boy lost our bottle and refused to fund a player or two...</p> or</p> Dave wanted a spot on the board but me & the lads teld him to *****</p> Not doubting what he told you just doubt the likelyhood of the real reason ever seeing the light of day in "public"</p>
I heard he left because he wanted to be in a higher position, in a similiar role to the one he had at leicester.
