Looking at the "higlights" on Virgin media 39% are from set pieces Goals from set pieces = 11 Goals from open play = 17 by my reckoning that is 39% May be I picked a bad week but I think Davey might have made up that statistic From current championship games availlable I omitted the 2 goals virgin missed from the WBA game and counted the pen as open play as it was gained in open play and the guy would probably have scored had he not been brought down - no red card though
According to each team's own official match reports on their websites, 23 goals were scored from open play (not including penalty) and 10 were from set pieces which is 70% open play, 30% set pieces.

Hmmm Mind you I am more concerned by our lack of scoring than letting in 6 goals in our last 9 games I Think Davey is probably right to think its not a major problem
Only 10 goals from open play in 22 games? As i have said earlier in the season, we seem incapable of putting decent attacking moves together. That is the key reason i am not a Davey fan. We dont create and put away many chances. This is the area Davey should be working on. The problem of not being able to defend against set pieces has been a problem for us for many seasons i reckon. Sadly i think that is the way football is going though. There does seem to be more play from set pieces than ever now. Not as entertaining as seeing a team rip the oppoistion apart from end to end.
Did you go to the Wolves game? We ripped them apart. They looked shocking. I can see McCarthy getting the bullet in the New Year. I'll drink to that.
RE: Only 10 goals from open play in 22 games? The reason for that being so many teams break up play by fouling in the middle of the field in order to get players back, seen it loads of times against us, a cynical ploy but a reason why you get so many set piece goals.
