Like staff approaching you in a shop asking if you need help every 5 minutes.

Regular means normal/ordinary. Always has done. It has never and will never be a measurement or size. A regular coffee is a normal, ordinary coffee.

 

Always has done if you were born in America. Bet your Grandad never asked for a 'regular' coffee.

 

My granddad didn't have a hundred different coffees to choose from, so he would never have had to use the term regular to differentiate his normal coffee from all those fancy ones. If he wanted a coffee he had one choice: black or white.

The American use of regular is when it refers to the size of a cup. In Britain we have always used regular to mean normal or ordinary.

 

Using regular to mean "ordinary" derives from American usage. Check the OED.

 

Or the people who say "can I also interest you in a......." No, if I wanted one of those id have asked for one.

...can keep its bubonic plague. We have far worse things to worry about in the modern age. I hate drinking coffee through a plastic lid. Dunt taste reyt. And how come every mother-tamper that works in a cafe is now a barista? Broken society.

 

They should have "just fecking coffee" on the menu -

 

Will it be tea next ?

"Can I get a tea please ?"
