"Certainly sir, will that be a regular Americano, Latte, Espresso, Flat White, Cappuccino, Mocha, Cappafrappalappacino..." "Nah mate, I don't want any of that fancy stuff, I just want a regular coffee." "Of course sir, do want a regular Americano, Latte, Espresso..." Dies long, slow, agonising death. "A pint of lager please and a dry white wine" "Would that be a regular white wine or a medium?" "Not medium, dry." And so it goes.
what the **** is a 'regular' coffee? you're just as bad i bet you actually said 'can i get a regular coffee' as well...
True that. Does my head in how you cant just ask for a coffee. If i want a latte, cappaccino, espresso etc I will ask for one, but i just want a coffee.
Regular means normal/ordinary. Always has done. It has never and will never be a measurement or size. A regular coffee is a normal, ordinary coffee.
My granddad didn't have a hundred different coffees to choose from, so he would never have had to use the term regular to differentiate his normal coffee from all those fancy ones. If he wanted a coffee he had one choice: black or white. The American use of regular is when it refers to the size of a cup. In Britain we have always used regular to mean normal or ordinary.
Or the people who say "can I also interest you in a......." No, if I wanted one of those id have asked for one.
History ...can keep its bubonic plague. We have far worse things to worry about in the modern age. I hate drinking coffee through a plastic lid. Dunt taste reyt. And how come every mother-tamper that works in a cafe is now a barista? Broken society.
Will it be tea next ? "Can I get a tea please ?" "Certainly sir, green, mint, camomile, or fruit tea ?" " just fecking PG tips tea" "lovely person"
