We are in receipt of your email and apologise that the absence of the Fixtures Secretary due to illness delayed our response. Blackpool and Cardiff City were given permission to re-arrange their match after The League was left with no alternative but to schedule the Carling Cup ties involving both clubs for the Wednesday. The League do not force a club to play two matches in 48 hours. Barnsley were given the option of moving their match back to the Tuesday to get more of a rest but declined. We hope this clarification is helpful and thank you for contacting The Football League. So the usual fob off then seeing as they wouldn't have been playing 2 games within 48 hours had they been instructed to move the Cardiff game back to this Saturday afternoon.
Were we really given the option on moving to the Tuesday How does that work with Sky then. I thought it was only on Monday because it was the televised game and good point why weren't Blacky playing on Saturday
I assume it means we move it back to Tuesday and forego the money from Sky (i.e. it wouldn't be on). Bog standard email - my mate sent me the response he got and it was exactly the same.
I replied to ask why they weren't instructed to play on Saturday and got a very quick response! This avenue was explored. However, the game was moved to the Friday at the request of the police and, although representations were made to them to allow the game to revert to the Saturday, they would not agree.
