Not required. All our players have a price, we accept that. That price has to be more realistic given that we are not cash-strapped and our current league position.
We could receive a £5 million bid for Roberts, tomorrow, and he'd be gone. There's another 20 days left of the current transfer window. Why would the club issue such a statement when they've no idea what kind of bids we're likely to receive?
Maybe the chance of promotion is worth significantly more, its taken us 20 years to get this close and it may take another 20 if we surrender our chances this time.
what is required, is the patience of "some" fans. This journey we are on and strategy the club has employed, has delivered unprecedented success over the last 12 months. Yes of course the club are not perfect in everything they do - BUT - I have more faith in the management of the club than I have for a number of years. We may end up selling a few players - we may not. But I trust that if we do, we will have replacements lined up, and a good strategic plan in place. If we don't I am sure the management team will be doing their best to re-sign players. Just sit back, enjoy the ride..... I certainly am!!
I think people are missing the point of the original post of course all our players are for sale and have a price that we would be stupid to refuse. That said, it would calm a lot of nerves if the club just reiterated their earlier statement saying that players are not for sale unless the money is too good to turn down. Please don't start on about what is 'too good'. We all know on here that 500K for SW would be a retrograde step, even though he only has half a season left on his contract. IMO the club would be very foolish to underestimate the effect of this nervousness amongst some fans, players and club. The atmosphere around the club can very quickly change (certainly within a month) and having a positive, all in it together atmosphere is priceless to the club both in terms of future success and future finances. Players do come and go but the feelgood factor we have at the moment comes around once, maybe twice in a generation. I think the fans have bought into the club model & ethos, its taken 10 years[?] to get to this point. A couple of ill thought sales could put a real dent in that. A simple statement is all that is required otherwise there is a vacuum and that is just going to lead to wild speculation.
It doesn't have to be about rumours, just to state the clubs position/stance re: this transfer window.
Off course the club has no intention of selling anyone. If we were offered £4/5 million for Bree we probably would sell. If we were offered similar for Hourihane or Winnall or Roberts then we probably would sell. Money talks but there is no need for an official statement regarding rumours and speculation and forum gossip.
They can put one out but whats the point, they will be issuing statements every day if thats the case. But to the OP I am sure the club doesn't "intend" to sell players this window. None of our players have been told to find another club or placed on any transfer list. All the noises from the club are they want to keep all the players who are first team regulars. That said every player has a value and if someone comes in with a value that exceeds that the club thinks they are worth they will be allowed to leave. So if clubs come in with high enough bids for our players and the players want to go then the club will sell. Same as any other football club. I will be disappointed if any players leave, I find it easier to accept if they go to a premier league club, but if someone like Villa is offering a player more than double than we want to pay and offering the club a good price I wont hold any grudges against the player (Unless they go to Leeds Millwall or Sheff U )
We were in similar position under Hill at start of the transfer Window and the same thing happened, lost our best players and struggled on to the end of the season. History repeating itself I'm afraid.
