    Bin men in Leeds.

Postmen, Firemen, BA cabin crew etc are usually just out of touch with the real world. But how can Leeds council justify cutting the bin men's wages by 25% - just because they've re-assessed the skills requirements!?

Leeds being covered in filth (even more so) is also mildly amusing.

it just shows what the public actually know about our situation,
the bin-men & posty strikes aint too dis-similar.
we are not getting a pay cut but are asked/forced to do extra work off our own back if you pardon the pun, thus cutting jobs
personally im like **** off a shovel and get done ok, but if you'd been lugging 10-15kg sacks about for donkeys years and not so quick on ya feet then this is the straw that broke the camels back!.....full o puns eh  and quite a few simply cant get finished on time.
most joe public dont really know why and when we're on strike
if i had a pound for everytime i got asked " i thought you were on strike today" last 2 weeks i could go on strike permanent!
do you actually think we all like losing money for the fun of it?

Not much fun when you live in Leeds!

They've finally grasped that apart from the drivers there are no skills required whatsoever.

They do get paid very very well for what they do.

When asked why you were on strike a union rep said to radio sheffield (not in exact words) "theyre wanting to buy machines to sort the mail which will mean our post men and women go straight out to deliver the mail instead of sorting it first. They call this modernisation". he then said "some of our post men walk for three hours a day, theyre expecting them to increase this to 5 hours a day".

The poor Barstewards, having some of their job done by machine and being expected to put a 5 hour shift in.

Funny how everyone suddenly cares about the binmen in Leeds. When it happened here and Barnsley MBC went through the job evaluation process, nobody gave a toss.

So presumably you would be happy if they re-evaluated your job and decided they were paying you too much.

    RE: Ah!

Workers solidarity went down the swanny when Thatcher encouraged everyone to get up to their ears in debt. Everybody became too busy looking after number one.
