the application from whoever the claimant is in the case, is for summary judgment. In order to gain summary judgment you have to show that there is no reasonable prospect of even defending the claim - ie the claimant's claim is so strong that it's not even worth having a full trial for it. For the judge to even consider it looks pretty bleak for Cardiff. So even if the judge doesn't grant this application and lets it go to a full trial, unless Cardiff City disclose some much stronger evidence then I would have thought the claim would have a good chance of being successful at a full trial. Adminstration would follow. Things don't look good for the Riddler.
the problem will be the timescale - it could drag on for ages. If he grants summary judgment then they could still make an application to set it aside but that would be tough and probably futile. If he doesn't then it would go to trial and that would take well over a year I would have thought. Depends on the court and the amount of evidence to be disclosed amongst other things.
