    ...I'm afraid you can't have both.

    The Premier League does far more for our economy than the national team and it puts our country in a positive light all over the world.

    *My views are a bit skewed as I've not really given too much of a toss about England for about ten years

    It does need to change, it doesn't particularly excite me as I'm a Barnsley fan and that's it, I hardly ever even watch MOTD anymore but you can't deny the impact it's had on the world. One of my friends who traveled around the far-east told me he was in some pokey town where there was barely evidence of electricity (something like Cambodia or Vietnam) yet he went in a bar one evening and there was a load of locals crowded around a small tele going bonkers over a live game.

    I'd have to disagree the Germans seam to be doing a pretty good job of balancing both

    Yes I agree - I much prefer the way the Bundesleague is run and their national side seems to do OK
