    Kill or be killed I imagine, for those on the ground - not excusing anything there btw.

    What occurs/occured in the minds of people who dream up stuff like that is beyond my understanding.

    Probably right but then again there is much evidence to indicate that there was never much in the way of clear orders to kill Jews (or others). The way the feral Nazi state worked was based upon chaos and getting noticed for carrying out policy or at least your interpretation of policy. It seems that a collective madness often descended on German soldiers.

    Very worrying. Given the evidence of it. It is a criminal offence in a lot of places to deny the holocaust isn't it?

    Think so. Not sure criminalising 'thought' however distasteful is the way to go. But when such thoughts lead to atrocities it's hard to argue against it.

    It is very hard, agreed. I just can't see how you can righfully claim something like this did not happen....

    Trips to Auschwitz and other concentration camps, and war graves should be compulsory in schools and fully funded by Govt/EU somebody.

    Then eventually we might get someone in charge who actually appreciates the consequences of his actions. Blair/Bush etc. Dunno what you'd do with nutters from outside 'The West' mind.

    I believe there is one country where it's illegal to deny the holocaust or to display/express Nazi doctrine and the education system teaches all children of the horror...You'd think Israel...Nope, Germany.

    Many more should follow this lead.

    Agreed. You'd think more places would have done. Although I don't think Israel will ever have a problem with denial...

    They are. Or at leat 2 pupils from each school go to Auschwitz and it is funded then they present back.

    I went a couple of months ago, words really cannot convey the feeling you get there. It does make you wonder, once you see this, how there are still holocaust deniers about.

    This piece was interesting "Yechiel leads me to an open pool of water with deep concrete sides, on a grass verge beside the blockhouses - the kind dug to give firefighters access to an easy supply of water for emergencies." - what our guide told us, was that the camp was insured and it was a condition of the company providing the insurance that these pits were built. In the case of a fire they wouldn't have been much use.

    I wasn't going to mention as I don't think it's relevent today. It's like the people who criticise IBM because the Nazi's used calculating machines.
    But being as that you can easily find it out - it was Allianz.

    A British firm?

    There is a world of difference between a calculating machine and insurance for a death camp. Although they won't have put usage - death camp.
