On my way back from a few days in Poland and staying near Dresden tonight. On to Colditz Castle tomorrow which is about 45 minutes away. No net connection yesterday so tonight is my first chance to read all the eye-witness and official reports. Not happy reading is it! Most report a truly shocking performance - we have had plenty of those especially away from home, but this seems to have really plumbed the depths. It's true that we have a load of players out injured but the unknown factor there is how much of a difference would it have made if the best of those were in the team yesterday? It just seems to me that "Barnsley Football Club" sometimes just cannot perform, especially away from home. It doesn't matter who is in the shirt, the result is often the same. Like many others I have left away grounds in despair so often that I keep wondering why I bother at all. I suppose that things will get better eventually - maybe sooner rather than later. Everyone seemed to be in raptures last weekend and now there is a 180 degrees shift from joy to abject misery. One final point to ponder for Barnsley fans, or indeed any fans of English teams - we don't really have too much to complain about. Driving on the E40 motorway this evening, towards the German border from Poland, there was huge blue flashing light display coming towards us. As it got alongside (on the opposite carriageway of course) I realised that it was a small convoy of only two coaches with at least seven or eight police vehicles in front and behind it. Yes, you guessed it - away fans returning home after a match. We only get that sort of treatment from the ground to the motorway don't we? It seems in these parts, they get escorted all the way home. Civilised country? In some ways, but not when it comes to partisan football followers.
