She cut to the chase and explains things better than all the rubbish you hear on TV. Her letter Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that parliament is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the UK might actually want to protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, onece here, make it harder (as an illegal immigrant) to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Then, when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed all the dishes and done the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard working and honest (except when I broke into your house)." According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and my family (my husband will do your gardening work) because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part. If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my illegal right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard working and honest, um, except for well, you know. And what is the deal for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me! English is too hard for me to learn. You should also allow me to vote - in my own language, since I live in your house!" Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?
Well, I see how ridiculous the letter is because the analogy is completely irrelevant! Where was that from? Which newspaper editor? As a couple of things suggest it wasn't a UK one. Where were these "large demonstrations" she spoke of?
Originated in the US, where they did have demonstrations across the country last year by illegal immigrants and supporters wishing to stay. We haven't had such demonstrations - so it would have made more sense had someone not tried to tailor it to the UK without taking out the obvious bits. Found the original on loads of sites.
The ilegal immigrants must be desperate then! Slough is a complete shithole! 5 minutes down the road from Windsor and Eton too? Amazingdifference between places so close.
Can't beat all-knowing idiots who write in to newspapers about the 'immigration situation' but don't even have the decency to understand the difference between immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees and illegal immigrants.
That's exactly his point... Illegal immigrants don't claim benefit and wouldn't be entitled to a pension etcetera 'cos they don't pay their stamp...
RE: That's exactly his point... Yeah but even so, they're still allowed to stay most of the time even though they've entered the country illegally. Why are we so different to places like Australia where they're more strict with the subject of illegal immigrants?
RE: That's exactly his point... More likely than not because of our reliance on all things foreign - every wave of immigration over the past hundred years (perhaps with the exception of asylum-seekers and refugees) has been, more or less, encouraged. The Irish to built the railways, Afro-Carribeans to help rebuild after the war, Asian doctors and businessmen and Eastern-Europeans to do the shitty jobs not many here want to do. Plus, immigrants have always been a useful scapegoat for various governments over the years...
RE: That's exactly his point... That's fair enough, Immigrants are fine.
It's the fact that Illegal Immigrants are allowed to stay. Illegal means breakig the law. It's like condoling theft, in the fact it's accepting people that are breaking the law.

Oh dear Gaz must be unwell That seems to be a straight post making a serious point - or have I missed some irony somewhere
Of course... ...and in all but the most exceptional of cases I don't have a problem with the deportation of illegal immigrants - we have a right to determine who does or doesn't enter the country. Regards condoning it – you’re right, we shouldn’t… However, there's two points to be made: Firstly, someone, somewhere, makes a lot of money out of these people coming here. Instead of vilifying the immigrants themselves why don’t we start taking a look at the people who make it profitable for them to come. Secondly, as Gaz rightly points out, if we’re going to have this debate then we at least need to be clear about who we’re debating about and exactly why they may or not be a problem.
Absolutely brilliant and so true. We are such a soft touch but the damage has already been done thats why so many want to and are migrating.
And who is insisting we learn their language? Oh nobody, because the letter is regarding the US and not the UK. Also scuppers people who say "why are we so soft and it doesn't happen elsewhere?"
So true........ that it's false! It's a letter originated from, and about, the US that somebody has, very poorly, tried to doctor.
Hold on, an immigrant has just turned up in Barnsley, he's from a third world country and he can't speak word of English. Send the bugger back! Perhaps we could give him a ***** job though, like being the striker for a relegation threatened second tier football club.
