From when I first saw him play, I thought RNL was a properly gifted natural footballer. It's clear he has had "issues", or he'd a) Have been an ever-present for us, and b) Been sold for a fee. His goal last night was proper class. Not smashed in, but finessed into that left hand corner. He's previously filled in at left back admirably and also looked good in (arguably) his natural midfield position. This lad needs managing, and hopefully Danny can do that. But he's in a very small minority of current first team squad members who should be retained. Mark Robins knows his worth, and will not be slow to come calling, especially if (when?) we are relegated.
Ah, but what kind of quality - top quality or poor quality? Sorry, just being facetious, but the word "quality" should always be qualified. But as we are talking about RNL after a great performance yesterday, I will make the assumption that you are plumping for "top quality". Then again, that's 2 words, so it won't work for this thread. So, I'll go back in my hole now....oh, and please don't go anywhere Whitey. Don't let the ****ers get you down.
I think his talent is without doubt. His ability to stay fit is. I can't ever remember him being available for a full stretch of games. If he could co-incide getting into the side with staying fit/ uninjured, I think he could play a major role for us.
I'm a fairly assiduous reader of many sites concerning the club, as well as the beloved 'Chron', but I don't recall there being frequent injury concerns reported about RNL. It seems to me there has simply been a reluctance to select him, not withstanding the natural ability he shows when he does play. I've rather got the impression that managers have had difficulty getting him focused, for whatever reason. Anyway, I'd like to see him play regularly. After all, it must be 5-6 years since his outrageously young debut. We can't take the tack: "Ah, he'll be a much more mature player when he's 53". On a more general note, I used to naively swallow all the guff put out about injuries. But after Flitcroft's dubious proclamations about the fitness of Nyatanga and Steele (both seemingly disproved by subsequent events) it seems that some of the info on injuries is just a smokescreen for other issues the manager might have with particular players.
Remembering Reuben's first goal for us in robins last game , and thinking then what a prospect we had. Probably hard for managers to give youth a chance as most managers are thinking short term, hope we stay up and get Danny to sign a long contract and then to build a team . Danny in the past has always gave young ones a chance so hopefully we will see our young ones become first teamers next season
