Anybody crossed it since the roadworks began? I've to go to Chester and am contemplating whether the M62/M6 route would be better (longer, but not much difference in time)?
Roadworks on M62 round Manchester can be a pain too if you dropmon unlucky. Sat waiting ages at midday on a Friday last month....straight through midday coming back on the monday Useless I know but I would use M62 and hope....I hate woodhead though.
How about Holmfirth way, or Snake Pass to Glossop then through Marple Bridge to pick up the M60 at Stockport.
Would say your best bet is the A635 (Holmfirth), down through Greenfield, Mossley and Stalybridge - From there you can pick up the M60 outer ring road.
I use A635 (M60,M62) to get Warrington and it probably the best route to take, that said now the M1 roadworks are done it is probably slightly quicker going that way and onto M62 even with the roadworks on the M60. Much nicer drive via the A635 though.
We went that way to Trafford Centre last Sunday and there were no road works, they'd gone. The only thing that slowed down was the usual at Tintwistle where the Gun Inn is up the hill to the start the M67
